DIY iridarium - place and conditions
Contents ✓
FOR THOSE WHO CHOOSE IRIDARIUM
The most convenient location of bearded irises in terms of caring for them - in the iridarium... It is easier to create the necessary conditions for all varieties of these plants at once, rather than to do it pointwise throughout the garden. Especially in areas with heavy soil.
And the conditions are as follows
1. The brightest place on the site. Light shade is acceptable for a short time in the middle or afternoon. Young, not yet flowering plants tolerate shade more easily than adults.
2. Medium and especially tall varieties of irises are planted in places protected from the wind or tied to supports. Otherwise, in windy and rainy weather, heavy wet flowers break off, the peduncles fall and turn out together with the rhizome from the soil.
3. The soil needs light, loose with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction. The best is structured light loam. Coarse sand or deoxidized peat (1: 1) should be added to clayey.
WELL DECOMPOSED MANURE OR COMPOST CAN BE APPLIED TO THE BOTTOM SOIL LAYER WITHOUT MIXING WITH THE UPPER.
4. All bearded irises are dry lovers, they are afraid of waterlogging and soil with a close occurrence of groundwater. But during flowering, strong overdrying should not be allowed. After watering only in drought, otherwise the rhizome may rot.
5. In winter, flower buds are most affected. In some varieties of irises, they die at a temperature under a layer of snow - 7 degrees. and below, at more stable threshold - - 14 degrees. In severe frosts, the rhizomes freeze out completely or the "back" freezes.
6. At deep planting, rhizomes also die (in heavy and moist soil). Sometimes they try to "bring" the growth bud to the surface, which greatly delays the flowering period.
IRIDARIUM WITH YOUR OWN HANDS - LANDING AND CARE, TIPS OF Irisovodov
IRIDARIUM SPRING
Blooming irises is a holiday! For it to take place, you need to properly care for the plants from the beginning of the season.
First, I rake off the mulch - I do it carefully, keeping the side buds intact.
If the plantings are flooded, I dig grooves, as irises do not tolerate excess moisture.
I remove the dried leaves left after the winter.
I examine the rhizomes. If rot is found, I cut it off to healthy tissue. The wound surface can be greased first with brilliant green, and then sprinkled with ash.
I treat the area where irises grow with Abiga-Peak, Skor or Ridomil-Gold fungicides (according to the instructions). For those who do not use chemicals, I advise you to spray the plantings with an ash-and-soap solution: pour boiling water over 300 g of ash and boil for 20-30 minutes. After cooling, strain, dilute with water to 10 liters and add 40-50 g of soap.
FROM IRIS FLY
Every year I fight it with the help of Aktara, Aktellik or Decis (according to the instructions). Better to process when the flower arrow is just emerging from the rhizome. When the buds appear, but are not colored, you can spray again. It is also recommended to spill the soil under the "Aktara" irises (2-3 times per season) - the solution is absorbed by the roots, and all parts of the plant become "tasteless" for pests.
If larvae are found in the buds, the flowers must be picked and burned.
ABOUT FEEDING IRIS IN SPRING
I don't overfeed my irises with nitrogen. Fertilizers with its minimum content are embedded in the soil after flowering.
I do not put fresh manure under the plants, but the old rotted one is quite suitable. There is no need to add non-decomposed compost - it must mature for at least two years. Irises respond well to the spring application of wood ash - the flowers become brighter and larger. One matchbox is enough for each bush.

Wherever you buy irises: in a store in packaging or from collectors, take a good look at the deal. The rhizome should be strong, without damage. If you find mold, stains, soft areas - do not take it better.
The larger the rhizome, the more actively the plant will develop. But keep in mind that different varieties of fans can be of different sizes: the higher and more powerful the iris, the larger the cut. In dwarf irises, accordingly, the fans will be small.
