MANDATORY WORK IN THE BEGINNING OF AUTUMN IN THE GARDEN, GARDEN, GREENHOUSE AND FLOWER

September is the first month of autumn. Summer is over, but there is still no time to be sad and to rest - the garden, vegetable garden, flower garden is full of work, and you need to do everything to the maximum.
LET'S START WITH THE GARDEN
After harvesting, tired fruit and berry crops need to be fed. Now they do not need nitrogen at all, it is for plants in the fall - like coffee for a person before bedtime: neither they nor we will fall asleep, this must be remembered.
Now you need to apply potash and phosphorus fertilizers. Potassium - in the form of potassium sulfate, phosphoric - in the form of superphosphate. You can add wood ash, it contains trace elements and up to 5% potassium by weight. Under adult trees and shrubs, add a couple of teaspoons of these fertilizers to loose and moist soil, under young (up to 5 years old) one teaspoon or 150 g of wood ash.
From pests and diseases, you can now treat the garden with such drugs as "Aktara" or "Inta-Vir", but at the very end of September, spray it with 2% Bordeaux liquid.
Pay attention to the near-stem and bite zone - it is necessary to remove all the debris, all the leaves that have fallen, the fruits, it is best to burn all this.
It is advisable to loosen and moisten the soil in the bush and near-stem zones, it can be mulched, for these purposes compost is best suited now.
After fruiting, trees and shrubs want not only to eat, but also to drink, so abundant watering in September is very necessary. Of course, it is important to monitor the weather outside the window: if it is already damp, then there is no need to water, but if there is no rain for a long time, then every 3-4 days pour a couple of buckets of water under the trees, and one bucket is enough for the bushes. At the same time, it is important that moisture is absorbed into the soil: water gently, slowly, wait until the soil is wetted.
Also, after harvesting, there are often many broken branches or those that bent to the ground. Such shoots can be safely removed. The main thing is that after cuts, cuts and cleanings, cover everything with garden varnish or paint over with garden paint.
The end of September is usually an active time for planting seedlings. It is better to postpone it with stone fruit crops and do this procedure in the spring, but it's time to plant seed crops. Now in nurseries - and this is where you need to buy seedlings - there are a lot of planting material of excellent quality, and due to the fact that there is a lot of choice and a lot of competition, prices are usually low, so why wait until spring - buy and plant. The main thing is that when planting, do not deepen the root collar - the tone should remain on the soil surface.
In the last days of September, it is necessary to whitewash the trunks and bases of skeletal branches with lime. Of course, depending on the region, this can be done later, for example, in the center and to the south it can be done in October or even November, but in the cold northern regions now is the time. Whitewashing with lime will protect against sunburn and all pests, and will destroy all diseases hidden in the cracks of the bark.
Pay attention to the raspberries - it's time to cut off the ripening shoots of raspberries, these shoots are brown, shorten the green tops of the young, and cut the remontant raspberries to the base of the soil.
It's time to free the trees from trapping belts, they are no longer needed this season. Reusable belts can be cleaned and folded in a dry place, but disposable belts can be burned outside the site.
GOING TO THE GARDEN
Protect your garden beds from frost - in September, they are not so rare that your vegetables are not damaged. Make arcs over the beds and cover them overnight with non-woven fabric or film. Non-woven fabric is easier to handle, it is more durable, so give preference to it.
For those who like to grow seedlings on their own, we advise towards the end of September to start preparing soil for seedlings. Collect soil from the most fertile area, free it from weeds, place in a bag and put away in a dry place. Separately, river sand can be poured into the bag and folded there. Prepare also peat, wood ash and other components for seedling soil, do not forget that time is very fleeting and all this will come in handy "tomorrow".
Pay attention to the soil, especially if there were fungal diseases in the past season. After you have removed the entire crop and tops, plow the ground and treat it with biological products, for example, such as "Glyocladin" or "Trichodermin".
Do not forget about the greenhouses: if the crop is harvested there, then collect the tops, dig up the soil, disinfect it and the room itself.
To enrich the soil in the garden with organic matter in early September, you can sow green manure. Do not worry, before the onset of frost, they will already be embedded in the soil by you. Of course, in order for everything to go smoothly, it is necessary to use crops such as mustard, rape, oil radish, peas, vetch, clover or phacelia, that is, fast-growing and cold-resistant.
Do not forget about cabbage, more precisely, about its late varieties. Fight slugs, dust the plants with wood ash and tobacco dust, water the plants abundantly once a week, but if there is a lot of moisture, then loosen the soil more often, increasing its evaporation.
At the end of the month, fertilizers can be applied to free beds, usually wood ash at 300 g per square meter, superphosphate at 50 g per square meter, potassium sulfate at 40 g per square meter.

In September, the optimal time for planting bulbs. Prepare the soil well for them, pick up a sunny area. Embed the bulbs at three heights and do not thicken the planting.
Pay attention to perennials: if they are very overgrown, then it's time to plant them. To separate the bushes, they must be dug up, cut into pieces so that each part has roots and an aboveground mass, and planted in a new place.
It's time to collect and prepare the seeds of annuals, for example, asters, cosme, zinnias, marigolds and the like. Collect the seeds, dry them, put them in paper bags and be sure to sign on each culture, variety, color.
Fertilizers can be applied at the beginning of September and repeated at the end of the month. Usually, 20 g of superphosphate, 15 g of potassium sulfate, 2 g of boric acid diluted in a bucket of water are enough per square meter.
It's time to send the corms for storage, cannes, dahlias, gladioli, begonias and other plants that will not survive under the snow are already ready for this. Dig up exclusively in dry weather, sort the bulbs and tubers, treat with a solution of pink potassium permanganate, dry and place in the basement or refrigerator.
Pay attention to those plants that are in containers - some need to be brought into the house so that they continue to delight you, others should be transferred to a dark and cool place - there they will sleep peacefully until the onset of the warm season, but still others can be planted in open ground and cover securely.
Take time for vines such as clematis, honeysuckle, honeysuckle, and the like. It's time to cut them off, remove them from the supports, lay them on the ground and be sure to cover them.
And finally, the lawn. In September, usually two or three lawn mows, cleaning of plant residues, weed control, watering are carried out. You can add 20 g of superphosphate per square meter of lawn and 15 g of potassium sulfate for the same area.
If it is very dry, then aerate the lawn: pierce the soil with a pitchfork to a depth of 15 cm every 30 cm.
