STORING GARLIC - THE BEST WAYS
Garlic is one of the most popular vegetables, especially this year. Why? It protects against most colds, and most importantly, helps to fight the pandemic that has already set the world on edge.
It remains to keep it until spring. Here's how our readers do it.
1. Garlic on nets
Over time, I came to the conclusion that garlic is best stored in tangerine (orange) nets. I put ten heads in each and hang them on hooks that I nailed to the upper shelves in the pantry. Going in for the garlic, I quickly look through all the nets. If I notice dried or rotten heads, I immediately remove them from storage.

2. Dry salting of garlic
At the bottom of dry sterilized glass jars I pour 2 cm of coarse table salt. I put the heads down, sprinkle abundantly with salt. I pour another 2 cm of salt on top. I close the lid with holes. I store it in the closet.

4. Garlic in cling film
Last year I tried to store garlic in cling film. I wrap each head separately, then put it in a cardboard box and put it on the mezzanine. Garlic does not dry in such a wrapper. True, if a rotten head comes across, then in the film it collapses more quickly, but the disease does not spread to another garlic.

3. Ash garlic
To preserve garlic until spring, I collect wood ash all summer. I put 2 cm of ash into a shoebox, put garlic on top, sprinkle it with ash, then another layer of garlic, then a layer of ash at least 2 cm thick. I keep the boxes right in the kitchen. Garlic feels great in such a powder. And in the spring I use this ash for the beds - I put it in the holes.

5. Paraffin bath for garlic
I heat white paraffin candles without perfumery fragrances in a water bath. I dip the heads of garlic in the melted paraffin one by one, let them drain. When dry, I put it in a cardboard box. I store it in the closet. Garlic after such processing does not dry out and does not rot.

BUNCHES OF GARLIC - TAKE NOTE
I want to write about winter garlic - how I store it until the fall of next year.
I dig at the end of July and dry for a long time in the sun. If it rains, I immediately sort: large for seeds, the rest for food. I tie three pieces in a knot and hang them in the barn. I do not cut the garlic, it hangs for a long time until it turns yellow. Then I cut off the one for seeds, divide it into slices and continue to dry. And from the one that is for food, I cook bunches.
First, I clean the stem from the leaves - it is not necessary to clean it much, only what will go away, and I cut the roots with a pruner or scissors.
I start with two garlic with a stem. Need twine. We tie the two heads tightly to each other, tie another one to them from below, hold it tightly again, and so we went in a circle ... Do not cut the twine until you tie as much garlic as you decide. I have small clusters.
When you finish knitting (I do this while sitting on a small bench and supporting with my knees), wrap and make a loop. Hang wherever you like in the house. Only on the balcony you can not hang!
Trim the stems with a knife. When you break off or cut for food, always start where you left off. Do not pull out the stem, otherwise everything will crumble.
I store garlic like this for no more than forty, and not a single head has disappeared. The pictures were taken in 2021. For gifts, I make bunches barely twice as big. They keep well.
