REPRODUCTION OF ROSES BY SEEDS
I've been sowing rose seeds for many years, I've tried different stratification options and I want to share my observations.
ROSES FROM SEEDS - ORDER OF WORK
At the end of autumn, I collect the fruits of roses. They should not be rotten or dry, with a smooth surface, preferably slightly immature - with a yellow side.
Immediately I extract the seeds (I somehow conducted an experiment: I put the unpeeled fruits in the refrigerator for several weeks, as a result the germination rate was low).
I wash the seed in water and leave it in it for half an hour. I did not notice any benefit from soaking in hydrogen peroxide, fertilizer solutions and Zircon.
For seed germination, cooling in a humid environment for 2-3 months is required. It is convenient to do this in the refrigerator, but you need to watch out: some may germinate ahead of time - these need to be sown urgently.
Stratified in microwave containers. Moisture is created by coffee filters soaked in water: "bites" are clearly visible on them, roots do not grow. These filters serve for a long time. Remember: the seeds will grow moldy, but that's okay.
After 2-3 months, I rearrange the containers from the refrigerator to a cool windowsill. I check it every day! If there are no seedlings for more than a month, you can carefully dissect the scales - press your fingernail on the visible "seam" and the "flaps" will open. I transfer the extracted embryos to a wet filter - there they quickly germinate.
I recommend immediately sowing in one-time cups (200 ml, with holes in the bottom) filled with garden soil. For a seedling, this volume is enough for 2 months, then you can plant it in the ground. I do not disinfect the soil, and the result in it is better than in the purchased one.
Some seedlings may have a seed coat. And here a drop of water will help, with which you need to moisten the "cap" - from a syringe. Sometimes I repeat this several times.
Rose shoots need a lot of light! Take care of additional lighting.
