PLANT SEEDLINGS IN THE SNOW? AND YOU TRY!
Yes, yes, in regions where winters are getting milder every year, you can plant plants directly in the snow. And if everything is done correctly, the survival rate is excellent!
For example, they bought quite “vigorous” bulbs in November-December (at a sale with a huge discount!).
Or they brought seedlings from warmer regions. Of course, you can try to keep them at home, but know that planting immediately is easier and more efficient. Few garden plants can survive the winter in a room - it's too warm, dark and dry, and it's time for it to sleep in the cold.
In the spring, you need to wake up on time and immediately begin to get used to external conditions.
It is clear that planting under snow is possible under one condition - the ground should not be frozen... Ice crust up to 3 cm - does not count. In areas under mulch, when snow falls, the soil can remain so for a long time until severe frosts. Sometimes until spring (even in Siberia).

LANDING IN WINTER
First, the roots (or bulbs, rhizomes) should not be severely frozen. First, remove the snow along with the mulch (you can just leave it on a wide shovel - it will come in handy later). Dig a hole and only then (quickly!) Take out the seedlings - and into the ground, as usual. Add mulch on top and replace the snow. Try not to unnecessarily trample around the planting site, so as not to cause rapid soil freezing due to compaction.
Another "subtlety": plants that have been kept warm should preferably be kept for several days (preferably a couple of weeks) in the refrigerator or in the basement for adaptation.
Second - if the earth is still "stake", plant the plant at home in a pot with peat soil. After two weeks of adaptation in the fridge, basement, or garage, place it in a snowdrift (directly on frozen ground) and sprinkle with a thick layer of sawdust. Snow is from above. In the spring, it is advisable to carefully remove the sawdust, and plant the plant in a permanent place.

FRUIT TREES AND SHRUBS BETTER PLANT IN AUTUMN
As practice shows, in the fall it is much easier to purchase high-quality planting material. In gardens and nurseries, the sale of freshly dug plants begins, which are much better and cheaper than those that will be sold in the spring. Often, seedlings are sold with fresh roots and leaves, and if it is an adult bush or tree, then there is an opportunity to look at the fruits. Autumn coolness and rains will provide the seedling with the necessary soil moisture and comfort. The fact is that, despite the onset of a dormant period, the roots of the tree continue to grow until the soil cools down to a temperature of +4 degrees. Plants planted in time for the onset of stable frosts will already have time to grow thin absorbent roots and in the new season they will start to grow as much as two, or even three weeks earlier than those seedlings that were planted in the spring. Moreover, autumn is a calmer time than spring. The harvest has already been harvested, the main preparations have been made, but in the spring there are always a lot of priority matters.
Of course, I plant only winter-hardy and zoned varieties in the fall. It would be foolish to plant seedlings of plants intended for southern climates, where severe cold is not uncommon in winter.
The optimal period for planting trees in autumn is considered to be the end of September and the whole of October, and possibly even the beginning or mid-November, if the weather is warm.
In central Russia, autumn planting is carried out from mid-September to mid-October.
In the northern regions - from early September to early October.
In the southern regions - from October to mid-November.
I, as my grandfather taught me, focus on the end of leaf fall - it is he who testifies to the onset of biological dormancy in plants. The most important thing is that the seedling planted in the fall has time to take root. Therefore, the longer the culture takes root, the more chances the seedling will not survive the winter. Stone fruits take longer to take root than pome crops, so I recommend planting them in the spring.
For autumn planting, I recommend planting apple and pear trees (winter-hardy varieties), raspberries, currants, gooseberries, honeysuckle, chokeberry.
If you did not have time for the autumn planting, and the seedling has already been purchased, save it until spring. For example, in a cellar or in the snow, or you can also dig it in the ground.
