AMERICAN FORGET OR NEMOPHIL MENTZIS IN OPEN GROUND
Last season I just couldn't stop looking nonphilous Menzis of the Baby Blue Ice variety! It is a short (15-25 cm), abundant and long-flowering plant with creeping shoots, beautiful openwork foliage and lovely flowers up to 4 cm in diameter. People call him American forget-me-not.
I grow a lot of flowers, and there is always not enough space for seedlings. Therefore, she risked sowing an unpretentious nemophila in open ground in the 20th of April (+25 degrees). The seeds are very small - they sowed densely, lightly sprinkling with soil. Soon it got colder, and during the month it was only + 3-6 degrees at night. Despite this, already on May 3, the first dense shoots appeared, later they even had to thin out. Although other plants, sown on the same day with nemophila, did not want to germinate.
FOR THE NOTICE
Nemophila planted in the foreground of the flower garden as a curb plant: she is low, ground cover - and would be lost in the company of taller plants.
The American forget-me-not began to delight with the fabulous flowering in mid-June. But it has grown well only by July. And when the intense heat came (+ 30-35 degrees), the plants became depressed.

The lower shoots were planted, some began to turn yellow and lose turgor, a couple of bushes were deformed and completely lay on the ground. The fact is that nemophiles cannot stand overheating of the root system (at home, in North America, it blooms in spring, when it is not yet so hot). I began to water them more often, but several bushes were missing. The rest were doing well until the end of August.
NEMOPHILA MENTSIS - CARE
If you rarely visit the country, plant Nemophila in partial shade or mulch the soil to avoid drying out, overheating of the soil and loss of moisture.
Do not plant the plants too densely - the air should circulate freely between them.
Maintain constant humidity, avoiding overflow, otherwise the roots may rot. The soil should be water and air permeable, drained, fertile with a neutral or slightly alkaline pH.
I plan to sow nemophila from my seeds in spring - my plants managed to ovary. If the climate permits, it is better to immediately sow it in open ground. With the seedling method, it is extremely difficult not to damage the fragile stems and root system during the picking and transplanting process.
