LAGURUS, OR HARE TAILS - SEEDING FOR SEEDLING AND CARE
Last summer I grew lagurus, or hare tails. I sowed the seeds at the end of February, so the plant bloomed fully on the site at the end of May.
It is a pity, but by mid-June it lost its decorative effect - it was necessary to have time to cut off the "bumps" (before the appearance of hairs on them). But the lagurus multiplied by self-seeding, re-emerged and bloomed again at the end of August.
I sowed the plant in high deoxidized peat with sand (1: 1) superficially and very thickly in a plastic box from under the cake. I kept the seedlings not on the windowsill, but under an ordinary LED lamp. The seedlings turned out to be excellent - they did not stretch out. I dived it into cups and at the end of March carried it to an unheated greenhouse for hardening. In the cold, he covered the plants with spunbond. Lagurus coped with a slight drop in temperature - the seedlings turned out to be quite cold-resistant.
The plant is extremely unpretentious - I planted it and practically forgot it. Loves the sun, normally tolerates partial shade. True, here the inflorescences grow longer than usual, and the lagurus falls from the wind and rain. But as soon as the breeze dries up - and soon the "tails" rise.
The culture is responsive to organic feeding: once a month it fertilized it with an infusion of chicken manure (1: 5) diluted with water (1:10). Watered as the topsoil dries up. There are undersized and tall varieties of lagurus. For pots, you need to select lower, otherwise they will stretch out under 3 meters.
My plants were not sick, but one day aphids appeared on the leaves and flowers. Saved by the treatment "Tanrekom" (according to the instructions).

EXPERIMENT WITH PAINTS
Lagurus is especially appreciated as a dried flower: bouquets of it can live forever. It itself is light as straw and lends itself well to coloring (usually food coloring is used for eggs). I experimented with potassium permanganate, brilliant green, iodine and hair dye. I added them a little to the water (separately in different containers), poured in a little table vinegar to fix the color. I left the bunches of plants in the solutions for an hour, then hung them up to dry in a shady place (not in the sun!). The pigment still adheres perfectly to bunny tails.
