ROSE ON THE HEAD - HOW TO CHOOSE AND HOW TO PLANT CORRECTLY
I was told that it is better to buy and plant roses on a trunk in the spring. What should you look for when choosing a seedling? How to properly prepare a landing pit?

- Buy seedlings with a closed root system. Such ones easily take root, and, as a rule, their quality is much better.
When buying, inspect the stem itself - it should be free of distortions and damage. The crown should be made up of two grafts, located one opposite the other, approximately the same in development, with 2-3 strong shoots each.
All branches are free of dark spots and defects, and the buds are green and healthy. Before planting, such seedlings can be left on the northern or eastern glazed loggia at a temperature of + 2-5 degrees.
SELECTION OF A PLACE AND SECRETS OF ROSE LANDING ON THE STAMP
Roses bloom best in sunny areas, sheltered from the wind.
When choosing a place, you need to take into account the free space nearby - for the winter laying of the plant. Sometimes the stem itself can be grafted onto the rosehip root - in this place, a one-sided thickening is usually visible. Remember: when bending the seedling, it should remain on the outside, opposite to the space left.
A pit for planting is needed with a size of 60 × 60 cm. On a damp site, a layer of broken brick is poured onto the bottom. Fill it with fertile soil, consisting of humus and the top layer of garden soil (3: 1). On a dry place, clay is added to the mixture, on a wet place - sand.
A long-acting fertilizer "AVA" is introduced (according to the instructions) and everything is mixed.
Before planting, the seedling with the pot for 30 minutes. dip in a bucket with sodium humate solution (according to the instructions) so that the lump is completely in water.
Place the plant in a hole at an angle of 45 degrees, to the side where you will lay it for the winter.
When planting, deepen the root collar by 5 cm.
Pour well with warm, settled water.
The barrel must be securely fixed. For this, I use metal reinforcement - for stability, I stick in two rods. I tie it at the base of the stem, in the middle and at the bottom of the crown.
Keep in mind that planting perennials with large root systems nearby is unacceptable.

WARNINGS & TIPS
Once I lost a standard rose with a closed root system, bought in the garden center in late April and early May. The plant already had young leaves. Before planting in a permanent place, I left a seedling in the garden and did not even tie the crown with lutrasil. And two weeks later I noticed that the twigs had withered. And no matter what she did later, the rose could not be saved. Most likely, in the store she was just planted in a pot and the root system has not yet had time to adapt. And the awakened shoots could not get enough nutrition, the sun and wind dried them out and the graft.
Therefore, I advise everyone to check the root ball. In addition, it is necessary to plant a standard rose with awakened shoots as early as possible in prepared fertile soil or a large pot. Cover the graft with moss and keep it moist, as well as protect the crown from the sun and wind.
And a sleeping seedling bought in February-March is best kept in the snow until planting. Rake off a snowdrift from the north side of the house to the ground, sprinkle a little commercial soil mixture with a path and lay a bole on it, wrapping the crown with lutrasil and putting on a plastic bag on top. Throw generously with snow, tamp lightly and cover with plywood so that it does not melt longer.

I dream of planting a standard rose in the garden. The sellers assure that in the Moscow region she will winter well if she is wrapped in several layers of lutrasil in November. Is it so?
#
As practice shows, simply wrapping standing bushes even in 10 layers of lutrasil is not enough. For a successful wintering, the plant must be bent to the ground. So that the bush does not break, it is undermined from three sides, and then tilted.
It is not necessary to bend the rose to the very ground, it is enough to fix the trunk with arcs at a height of 40-50 cm. You should get a tunnel for further shelter. Next, cover the shoots. For these purposes, dry foliage of trees is well suited. Having overlaid it with the roots of roses and the stems pressed to the ground, lutrasil folded in three layers is thrown on top. They press it with something heavy so that it does not blow away with the wind, and in this form they leave the rose to spend the winter.
It is even easier to ensure a successful wintering if you plant a standard rose in a large container, and in the fall bring it into a room with a temperature of -5 ... + 20C.
