CARROT SEEDS ON PAPER TAPES OWN HANDS
What could be easier than gluing seeds onto paper strips? Routine! But don't tell me. Moreover, the future size of root crops directly depends on this work.
CARROT SEEDS ON PAPER - STRICTLY PERPENDICULAR
No matter how long the winter may seem, its end is just around the corner. And that means it's time to prepare for the upcoming field season. First of all, I pay special attention to crops that have very small and capricious seeds: parsley, parsnips, and, of course, carrots, for which I always allocate a special plot. How else? You can't do without this beauty at any time of the year. So, about a month and a half before planting, I take out the seeds from the box (and I store them there in cotton bags) and hang them on the battery pipe near the windowsill. I keep them in this position for several days - for warming up and airing, and then I stick them on toilet paper. And I do it according to the method that I myself developed several years ago.
I take a roll and draw two perpendicular lines on one of its ends with a felt-tip pen, which I continue on the sidewall and bring to the other end. Along these lines, departing from the ends by 50 mm, I make punctures with a tailor's awl at intervals of 1 cm. What is the depth of the punctures? And as far as the awl can enter the paper. On average, it turns out on each line 8-10 holes (of course, it all depends on the width of the roll). And then I unwind the roll and cut the tape into strips 1-1,2 m long. You can, of course, make them longer, but this size is determined by the dimensions of my table, on which I carry out this pre-sowing work.
And for the sowing itself, this is the best option - when laying such sections of the tape in the grooves, the wind flutters less and leads to the sides. I work alone, and I don't have an extra pair of hands to constantly correct the paper.
So, now I'm starting to prepare the starch paste. It should be of such density that its droplets have a semicircular shape, do not spread. And after cooking, the paste must cool down, otherwise the paper may creep under it. And now the most interesting thing begins: near each puncture on both sides, stepping back about 2 cm, with the help of a match I put “starch” drops on the paper and immediately drop the seeds on them (with the same match). I know that some summer residents find this activity boring or even dreary, but it seems to me that it all depends on the mood. Personally, this kind of work just fascinates me. Firstly, I know for sure that the future harvest of my favorite carrot depends on my scrupulousness. And secondly, I spend the gluing of the seeds under some interesting program on the radio or on TV. Double pleasure! Usually I do this all in the evening, so that the paste dries completely overnight and fixes the seeds securely.

SECOND OPTION FOR GLUING CARROT SEEDS ON PAPER
And in the morning I cut the ribbons into strips 1 cm wide so that in the center of each there are lines with glued seeds. I wind these strips on my palm in rolls and put them in cocoa boxes, on which I write the name of the varieties (or crops) and “seal” them with rubber bands. And the seeds are safely stored there until the day of sowing. I do not process or etch them with anything.
But I spill the planting grooves on the beds first with a solution of manganese, and just before planting with a solution of biofungicide. I lay out the strips of seeds in the grooves and lightly sprinkle them with earth. Well, that's all - I'm waiting for the shoots. If some seed does not sprout, it will not be very noticeable, but there is no need to thin out. Care is also simple: regular watering, weeding and feeding. Yes, I forgot to highlight another important point.
With this method of sowing, the distance between the plants is approximately 4-5 cm. This means that the root crops will grow medium in size. If you need them to be larger, then three intersecting lines should be drawn at the end of the roll, and in this case the intervals between the plants will be 6-7 cm.
I personally don't like big carrots, that's why I mostly use the first option. By the way, in the same way I prepare small seeds of some flowers for sowing.
And my plot is 7,7 acres. So there is a place for a garden, and for a garden in which three apple trees, three plums, two cherries, sea buckthorn with their own "sea buckthorn", seven bushes of different varieties of currants, three bushes of honeysuckle, as well as red and yellow raspberries, blackberries, and, of course, all kinds of flowers. I don’t do exotic things, as they require constant attention (cover-open), especially in winter. And I am not around at this time, because because of the too light type of residential structure, my summer season ends quite early. I can't leave the planting to chance - responsibility for my green pets does not allow.
However, I also do not suffer from gigantomania. What is on the site is more than enough for me, especially in good years. On the site I am alone so far. I invite my neighbors, summer residents, and just everyone to take pictures of the surplus. But every year there are fewer such assistants, since everyone in the district has their own plantings. Therefore, in recent years, I have been taking the remains to the district and there I give it to the church, hospital, school and in general to everyone who will take it. I don't sell anything. After all, if the Lord has given, then it is necessary to share. I consider it my duty, despite the fact that such a delivery is getting harder and harder. Age is not decreasing, but on the contrary, it is increasing, and the road to the dacha remains the same: with three changes and seven hours of travel.
But love for the country is only growing stronger. I especially like to lean in the shade against the canopy wall in the heat and enjoy the coolness, while watching the birds examine the branches of fruit trees in search of prey, at the same time freeing them from pests. And after rest - forward and with the song: loosen, weed, water, feed. Summer, it is, it loves work, so that in winter there is something to rest with.

CARROT ROLLS WITH SECRET
I will share my experience in growing carrots. I, like many gardeners, also place seeds on paper before sowing, but I do not glue them with paste. This is the case. On the eve of planting, I cut the usual film into strips 5-6 cm wide and 70-80 cm long and already on them I put the same size strips cut from toilet paper. Then I wet them with water from a flower spray and they stick to the film. Then I gently spread the carrot seeds on wet paper at a distance of 3 cm from each other, cover them with the same tapes of toilet paper from above, spray them with water again and roll them into rolls. And then I wrap them in pieces of film and put them in cups with a little water so that the seeds do not dry out, but swell. And if the next day the planned sowing suddenly for some reason breaks down, the sowing material will remain in a combat state for about 10 more days.
When sowing, I unwind the rolls and lay them on the beds so that the strips of film are on top - I then remove them. And on the ground there are swollen seeds between two layers of toilet paper.
I sprinkle them with a layer of fertile soil or lump of about 1,5-2 cm and slap it with my palm for better contact of this layer with the seeds. Then I cover the entire bed with a film until shoots appear, so that the moisture does not evaporate. By the way, I also plant black onions. And I'm very happy with the results!
