Growing tomatoes on a personal plot is not as simple as it seems at first glance. You always want to get an early harvest of these tasty and healthy vegetables. Therefore, it is often necessary to plant fragile seedlings in the greenhouse in the spring at a time when the threat of night frosts has not yet passed. Since this can seriously harm our future harvest, we have to protect it and properly deal with the cold.
EARLY LANDING - BREAKING THE HARVEST
I live in central Russia. In spring, we have night frosts even in May. And tomatoes are thermophilic plants. If you plant them in a greenhouse at the beginning of June, then you may not wait for the harvest at all. At the end of July, fog and dew begin, which contribute to the emergence and spread of dangerous diseases. So we have to somehow get out of this situation.
I plant tomato seedlings in a greenhouse at the beginning of the third decade of April. In order for the plants to take root and take root well, I cover them with film or agril for the first few days. But as the tomatoes grow, it becomes impractical to use a covering material. Then a very simple and affordable way comes to the rescue.
BTW
TO NOT PUMP A NEW BUCKET OF HOT ASH EVERY DAY, I AM ADDING IT A LITTLE AND MIXING IT, HEATING THE OLD CARBONS.
BATH TO HELP
As soon as the weather forecast tells me that temperatures are expected to be below 5 ° C at night, I flood the bathhouse. I put the burnt out, but still hot coals into an iron bucket and put them in the middle of the greenhouse in the late afternoon. One such heater is enough for a 6 m greenhouse covered with polycarbonate. It is warm until the morning. Tomatoes do not suffer from sudden changes in temperature, they grow and develop faster, and the yield doubles.
ALTERNATIVE
There is another way to heat the greenhouse in spring during cold weather. To do this, I heat a few red ceramic bricks in a boiler bath, put them in a bucket and place them in a greenhouse. Of course, such heat as from coal and ash does not work, but 2-3 red-hot bricks can heat the entire greenhouse for 5-6 hours.
