Gardening according to Gennady Fedorovich Raspopov - valuable advice to summer residents and gardeners
GARDEN BY RAPPOV - COMPOST, SIDERATES, NO DIGGING AND AERATED COMPOST TEA
For 50 years of gardening, I have grown 4 gardens in different soil and climatic zones of our city. Approximately every 10 years he changed the principles and goals of his approach to gardening. After all, I am primarily a doctor. Gaining experience, knowledge and worldly wisdom with age, I was able to transfer this knowledge from the field of medicine to gardening.
So: what new did I learn from medical and agronomic science and how I was able to test these innovations and parallels in my practice.
Any mother and grandmother feeds a child, believing that the better she selects a composition for him in proteins, fats and carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, the healthier he will be, form strong bones, strong muscles and good immunity.
But now I understand that microbes live in the child's body, not those that we give the child called probiotics, but those that the mother passed on to the child in childbirth and with breast milk, and her great-great-grandmother. And these billions of living beings are responsible for immunity and health, and they, and not only the child, must be properly fed, because microbes have hundreds of times more enzymes for processing food into the necessary ingredients than our body does.
That is why it is not necessary to feed the child with chemistry and treat any acute respiratory infections with antibiotics, killing our friends in the intestines, but it is necessary to give the child natural food from his ecological garden, which will make him a microbial (community of microorganisms) diverse and prosperous.
What does a gardener do when planting a garden? He digs holes and, according to the instructions, pours mineral water and organic matter into the hole. This is just an anachronism. In such a hole without oxygen, as in the cesspool of a village toilet, putrefactive processes take place, and the tree, in order to survive, drives young roots up to the mulch, to the roots of weeds, and in symbiosis with mushrooms and bacteria of the rhizosphere of these grasses it takes out nutrients.
We are afraid of germs, because they cause disease and must be killed? This is not true. There are thousands of times more useful microbes. It is necessary not to kill everything, but to learn how to correctly diagnose both a person and a plant and apply antibiotics or pesticides in a targeted manner, in a gentle way and only in extreme cases.
Microbes live not only in the human intestine, but also on the skin, mouth, lungs, and genitourinary system. And also in the rhizosphere of the roots, on the leaves, on the bark of trees and lichens that cover the bark. Moreover, their composition, their functions in all these places are different. Both in humans and in the wild, microbes are different.
Another important note. There are about 100 times more microbes on the human body and its mucous membranes in the number of cells than human cells.
And now the most important thought. Man and any plant evolutionarily preserves and maintains only those microorganisms whose metabolites he can use (these are vitamins, short-chain fatty acids, antimicrobial peptides, hormones, etc.).
When I am asked what is a human microbial or microbiota in the rhizosphere (around the suction roots), I say - this is not just the whole mass of microbes, it is the variety of genes of all living things inhabiting humans and plants.
Bacteria protect us, both humans and plants, according to the same principles.
They live in colonies in biofilms, surround themselves with a cloud of metabolites with antibiotic properties and do not let strangers into the body.
The microbiota digests the food that the enzymes of the stomach and the villi of the human intestine and the villi on the roots of plants are unable to digest.
Tribes in Asia perfectly eat grasshoppers and other small inhabitants of the forest, we are not capable of this. Hindus on the banks of the Ganges, where the corpses of people and animals are buried, drink the dirtiest water in the world and do not get sick thanks to the genes of the microbiome.
Microbes synthesize hundreds of vitamins and other metabolites that humans or plant roots have forgotten how to produce.
My advice to parents: Train your kids to hundreds of foods starting at 6 months.
My advice to gardeners: Before you start planting a new garden, learn to do three things.
FIRST, make the right compost. It does not matter from what, it is important that the organic matter in the compost heap, mixed with roots and leaves of weeds from the nearby fields and forests, with constant loosening, with the access of oxygen, increases the diversity of living things as much as possible. Not only bacteria, but also microfungi, amoebas, flagellates, kolem-bol, bugs and spiders, worms of all kinds.
SECOND, learn how to properly use both green manure and weeds. I constantly bring hundreds of bags of foliage and dry cut grass to my garden in the fall, as well as a litter of dung from my animals. They contain millions of weed seeds. Seeds sprout between trees, and in the struggle with each other, many die, the most adapted to life on my soil, in my climate, under a dense crown among fruit trees remain. Everything is like at the edge of the forest. But there organic matter accumulates for hundreds of years, and I add organic matter annually and accelerate soil formation.
THIRD, learn to work without a plow and shovel, without black steam in the garden. In my organic mulch, both worms and mice are digging holes, there are thousands of soil engineers mixing the soil, depositing their excrement to a depth of 30 cm.And the roots of weeds, parallel to the roots of trees, go to a great depth in loose soil for potassium and other elements, transferring them into leaves and later covering the soil with rich litter. What about nitrogen? For this, I use an animal bedding. In a young garden, sometimes in late autumn, after leaf fall, I locally put urea in the holes. After all, the roots can consume urea without harm all winter, increasing frost resistance. If urea is simply sprinkled on top early, in September, the plants will grow and freeze. But remember, 90% of the nitrogen the tree gets from nitrogen fixers in the rhizosphere of the roots. The tree even deliberately attracts microbes with sweet secrets.
The gardener is taught to mow grass and green manure in summer, when there is a lot of nitrogen and a lot of mass in them. They say that the soil will accumulate more humus. Cheating. The green grass rots, turns into mucus and is washed away by the rain. I mow the grass when it is completely dry. What is important to me is its lignin, which does not rot, but is processed by fungi into stable humus. It loosens the soil for decades, gradually releasing nutrients and carbon energy. Mushrooms eat worms, give "meat" to the soil.
If I leave the herbs to grow until late autumn, their roots release more sugars and mucus into the soil, attract more microbes to themselves, and the microbe is pure protein, "meat" for trees. But most importantly, stable humus is created in the soil precisely from the secrets of the roots (from cyclic polyphenols), science has recently proved this.
And my last secret. Having high-quality compost with a wide variety of beneficial, plant-friendly microorganisms, I can increase the number of these organisms millions of times, making aerated compost tea - ACC (there are hundreds of my articles on this topic on the Internet). All summer 2-3 times a month I spray both the soil and the leaves with beneficial microorganisms.
I constantly talk with my gardening friends, and we discuss the following issues. What is the essence of ACC? Any gardener understands that carrots and cabbage grown in a huge field, which are constantly sprayed with poisons from pests and where chemical fertilizers are applied, are harmful to health, and the same vegetables from the garden where manure is placed, and pests are collected by hand, bring health benefits.
"Yes, we understand that the chemistry in vegetables is harmful, but what have soil microbes and AAA to do with it?" - the gardener asks.
And despite the fact that chemistry not only accumulates in vegetables, it kills all beneficial microbes in the soil and around the roots of plants, and vegetables, except for simple carbohydrates and nitrates, do not contain anything useful. And manure contains billions of beneficial microbes, plants attract them to their roots, the secretions of roots feed the necessary microbes, and they give the plant vitamins, minerals, and special antioxidants, and a thousand more useful substances that you and your children and grandchildren need for health. Everything is exactly the same as in a person's intestines, the villi secrete mucus, feed beneficial microbes, and they give the person vitamins.
Manure is good, but why AFC? If you take manure from farms where animals are fed with antibiotics, such fertilizer will kill all living things. But the manure from their animals is not worth it! If you prepare compost from it and bring it into the garden and garden, then gradually, not only in the beds, but also in the owner, the microbial diversity in the intestine will increase significantly. The ecology of the beds will improve - the human ecology will also improve.
When I realized this, I stopped fighting weeds, didn’t burn anything and didn’t plow deeply, but left it on top and brought old foliage, dry grass and compost from my animals from everywhere and put it only on top and sprayed it all over with ACC many times. There are a lot of food microbes, weeds and plants around grew up to the heavens, the roots of healthy fed plants were driven into the soil by sugar, and they fed the soil animals.
And my soil has turned into a meter high black soil with better biodiversity than virgin land. All rot and pathogens were replaced by useful flora, and it does not let rot to the roots, just as the friendly microbes in my intestines stopped letting harmful viruses into my body.
Then I discovered that biodiversity is in the local garbage heap, where for years I have not put manure, but foliage, potato tops and small twigs, animal bedding with hay and on which local weeds grow (nettles, quinoa, burdocks, etc.) ), much better than in compost, where bad manure and household waste are placed.
There are a lot of microbes in the manure, in the soil with worms there are even more, but in my loose heap with twigs and foliage there are millions of bugs, worms, larvae of all sizes, everyone has their own beneficial microbes in the intestines and everyone eats organic matter and secretes lumps of fecal humus, makes the soil structural.
But the main thing is wild grasses, they emit a lot of sugars into the soil, billions of living beings living in natural symbiosis multiply around their roots, and if I propagate them in a bucket of molasses, letting air pass, then the quality of such AFC will be many times better in terms of the set of necessary for nature and man of microbial genes.
Based on my experience and recommendations of science, I came to the conclusion: there is no point in using pharmaceutical preparations for prevention and treatment, it is easier to convince patients to change their lifestyle and nutrition. There are not only proteins, fats and carbohydrates, but also food with a large variety of dietary fiber, as well as harmless bacteria (such as yogurt, sauerkraut, live young wine, beer, kvass). And also unwashed fruits and berries from their eco-garden.
For me now it is an axiom: the higher the biodiversity of microorganisms in the garden, the less opportunity for pests and diseases to take root in it, the higher the immunity of plants. The higher the biodiversity of microorganisms on the skin and in the intestines of a child, the less opportunity for pests and diseases to take root in it, the higher the child's immunity. My grandchildren eat unwashed berries and fruits, enriching their microbial with beneficial new microbes.
My main idea is simple: in order to live long and not lose health, one must live in the Garden of Eden. Work as much as possible with both hands and head, be engaged in creativity, raising grandchildren. To eat fruits from your garden, which you cannot buy, pour raw water from a stream in which trout swims.
Therefore, when planting a garden, think not so much about a rich harvest with which you will amaze your neighbors, but about the fruits containing a set of vitamins, healthy fiber (prebiotics) and microorganisms that will take root and increase the immunity of you and your children.
