LONG-TERM FRUIT OF CUCUMBERS IN THE GREENHOUSE AND FORMATION OF THE BRIDES
If all the conditions for growing cucumbers are met in the greenhouse, they feel like paradise there. But from the life of paradise, the growing bushes strive to make a real jungle. Which of the summer residents did not have tears when trying to grab the pruner? .. However, as it turns out, this heartbreaking operation can be avoided.
I grow cucumbers in the garden, so to speak, in two formats: in the greenhouse and in the open field. In the first case, these are early maturing varieties that I plant with seedlings. The second option is mainly hybrids for harvesting for the winter. I sow them in the garden with dry seeds. They usually sprout rather quickly, and the sprouts that appear quickly gain strength. The bushes grow vigorous, and there is no need to complain about the harvest.
However, last summer the cucumber program failed. I began to notice a strange picture: just yesterday the vigorous sprouts, standing like soldiers, were already beginning to wither and sink to the ground the next day. At first I thought that the lack of water was to blame for everything, but, on reflection, I realized that I was on the wrong path, because I irrigate regularly, and the "loss" of sprouts occurs in separate areas.
Then I decided to pull out some plants and see what was going on in the ground. She pulled it out and was stunned: the sprinkled parts of the stems were literally covered with ants, which almost chewed them through. She began to pull out other withered cucumbers - the same picture. Just some kind of ant invasion! I had to plant new seeds, adding chopped hot peppers to the holes. They also sprinkled the earth around the stalks of the surviving plants.
And although this "pepper powder" had to be added over and over to the garden bed after each watering, I was still able to cope with unwanted neighbors.
However, before the fruiting of my cucumbers began, a new attack was discovered: after the rains, the leaves began to dry on the bushes. Actually, in our area, this has happened quite often in recent years. They say the rains have become acidic. I don’t know if this is so or not, but at least with cucumbers I haven’t had this before.
And here you are - please ... In short, in comparison with other seasons, the fruits went much less for spinning, and even for salads it was barely enough. Well, at least in a greenhouse, cucumbers do not fall under atmospheric precipitation. It was these green friends who helped me out, because they bore fruit until late autumn, when the frost killed them.
They grew as if nothing had happened: the leaves are green, healthy, powerful, only the lashes stretched painfully quickly to the ceiling of the greenhouse, forming there, in the height, dense thickets. Therefore, I formed the bushes into one stem, wrapping them around twines tied to a wire stretched under the greenhouse roof itself.
And as soon as the cucumbers grew to the ceiling, I proceeded to the operation of lowering the lashes. She stopped watering so that the stems were not too fragile, untied the strings and cut the leaves along the stems to young ovaries. And after that, she lowered the bare lashes to the ground, winding them in rings.
As time passes, you see - again cucumbers stretch to the ceiling of the greenhouse, forming new and new strong, beautiful fruits on the stems.
During the season, I carried out this procedure four times. One photo shows a whole heap of bare stems. They do not interfere with watering, sometimes they even take root and give stepchildren, but I do not allow them to grow, I pluck so as not to thicken the plantings.
Such a simple technique allowed me to simultaneously prolong fruiting, improve the well-being of cucumber bushes and make it easier for myself to care for them.

NOTE: SPIDER MITE FIGHTING ON CUCUMBERS
In the comments, EB Medvedeva complained that for the second year in a row, for some unknown reason, her cucumbers were dying. No, dear Elena Borisovna, there is no mystery here. Moreover, sooner or later every summer resident meets with the "author" of all your troubles, and it is mainly in August. Alas, apparently, it's time for you to get to know him - it's a spider mite.
At one time, he also rampaged with me, and at once in two greenhouses: in a wooden one and from a metal profile with polycarbonate. A good friend of mine suggested to me the method of dealing with it. At first I doubted, but there was no way out, and decided to try. And for five years now I have been collecting my cucumbers by the end of October!
So, in August, as soon as the cucumber bushes begin to deteriorate, I, without regret, remove all the diseased leaves and all the ovaries, and at the same time all the fallen leaves on the ground. The remaining practically bare stems are thoroughly treated with a bioinsecticide solution, be sure to add soap to it. Then I feed the cucumbers with herbal infusion with the addition of mullein and ash. After that, all that remains is to wait: the plants very quickly gain green mass and begin to re-set the fruits.
But those of them that were formed after processing for a week, I delete.
Cucumber lianas turn green and bear fruit until the very frost. And with the foliage that I removed, then I mulch the potatoes: he has different pests and diseases with cucumbers, so there is no harm to him from such mulch, on the contrary - one benefit. And what good is there to be wasted?
By the way, I grow a lot of potatoes. Jura, Romano, Sorcerer, Gala, Lionhart, Kiwi, Ivan da Shura give good harvests. And from the colored varieties I really like Lilac (blue), Purple ruby and Mountain rose (red).
