Multi-tiered bow in the greenhouse - planting and care

CULTIVATION OF A MULTI-STORY ONION IN A GREENHOUSE - MY EXPERIENCE AND REVIEWS ABOUT THE HARVEST
FROST RESISTANCE OF MULTI-TIERED ONION
More than 10 years ago, I found out that the perennial tiered bow can withstand up to minus 50 °, and I decided to check it out.
I planted this bow in a polycarbonate greenhouse in the coldest place, on the side of the front door.
The air temperature in such a greenhouse in winter does not differ from the outside temperature. I managed to fix our personal record over the years - minus 32 °. Indeed, the onion turned out to be uneasy, even withstood constant drops from minus through zero to plus and vice versa.
MULTI-TIERED BOW AFTER WINTER
Soon after disembarking, we completely forgot about him and did not look after him in any way. As a result, the bow grew into a solid carpet. And it was then that we saw what he could really be.
IN MANY GARDENERS, THE MULTI-TIERED ONION grows on the street in the beds.
In such conditions, it does not differ in a very early yield of the harvest, and, in fact, the yield is low - approximately like that of onion. Surprisingly, it grows in a greenhouse quite differently.
In addition to its amazing frost resistance, I would note its heat resistance: in spring, in a completely closed greenhouse in sunny weather, the thermometer rose to 46 °, and onions at least that! The temperature range at which this species is able to survive is at least 96 °! Such vitality amazes and surprises.
In addition, the culture is quite drought-resistant. Even with a wide range of temperature and soil moisture, the bulbs do not rot, which is not typical for other types of onions.
In the greenhouse, we cut fresh greens when there is still snow outside and the “green season” lasts until November. Thus, even at the latitude of Petrozavodsk, onions produce a feather during 6-7 months of growing season.
MULTI-LAYER BOW READY TO HARVEST
Thus, we can conclude that multi-tiered onions can be successfully grown even in the Arctic. But only in the greenhouse. The onions grown in our country (for comparison) in the open field gave a much smaller harvest. And the taste of the feather of a multi-tiered onion, in my opinion, is higher than that of onion.

WITHOUT CARE ONION IN THE GREENHOUSE quickly grows into a continuous carpet. In one place, it can grow for at least 10 years.
I will tell you how we operate our onion plantation. We harvest twice a season (remember, the site is located at 61,7 ° N). The first stage of harvesting starts from April 15-20 and lasts until June 20. The onion has not yet been actively shot and has been providing us with fresh herbs for almost two months. Then we give the plants a little rest. And after a period of rest, we cut the greens again until November. Be sure to feed the onion with fertilizers after cutting off a large amount of greens.
By the way, an interesting fact: a multi-tiered onion growing in a garden reaches marketable quality a month later, and its productivity is less. And he begins to shoot at the same time as the bow in the greenhouse.
AT THE END OF JUNE, bulbs are formed on the ARROWS in several tiers, and the arrows gradually fade and fall off. We remove them, provoking the plants to give a young feather again. The second wave of bulb harvest occurs in late autumn, after repeated shooting. This allows you to quickly increase the area of the onion plantation by planting young bulbs in a 4 × 4 cm pattern. Before planting, they can be stored in the refrigerator for several months.
After realizing the merits of permanent greenhouse production of multi-tiered onions, I have come to the conclusion that this crop is ideal for forcing feathers on an industrial scale. Here, it seems to me, it may well replace the onion. The advantages are obvious: there will be no need for annual costs for the purchase of planting material, for its preparation, planting, care and disposal of "waste" bulbs.
MID-MAY - TIME FOR CUTTING MULTI-TIERED ONION FOR GREENS
IN 20 NUMBER OF JUNE THE BOW IS COLORING AND LAYS NEW BULBS
But of course, in any case, first you need to plant an experimental bed of a small area and work out agricultural techniques on it. But in a room in winter, a multi-tiered bow is bad. The experience of my friends has shown that without illumination, plants die even on the windowsill.
Our greenhouse has been modernized to extend the frost-free period. This is ensured by the heat accumulators installed in it (barrels of water) and infrared reflectors made of reflective alufom material. Lettuce was sown in it, and on an area of 0,3 sq. m grew a multi-tiered bow, planted last year. On April 15, we selectively cut off the most developed onion feathers, and on April 23, we collected a large store bag of green onions.
By April 30, some of the salad greens were removed, the remaining onions and salads were cut on May 6. During the next warm period, our greenhouse supplied greenery to our family, neighbors and acquaintances. And if you plant a multi-tiered bow in a warmer place, cover it with non-woven material, creating favorable conditions, then it will give greens earlier than April 15, and even in the northern regions.
