HOW TO CARE FOR A FRUIT GARDEN IN THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER?
In June, all the forces of fruit and berry crops are directed to the growth of shoots and ovaries. At the same time, gardeners will have to work hard to reap a decent harvest later. What should be taken care of this month? The word is for specialists.
PROTECTIVE TREATMENT OF THE GARDEN IN THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER
© Author: Manana KASTRITSKAYA, Cand. agricultural sciences:
- After flowering, fruit trees are quite vulnerable to pests. In June, the moth, various sawflies, aphids, and fruit mites are primarily active. Against them, use insecticides such as Aktara, Almetrin, Arrivo, Decis, Kinmiks, Tanrek, Karate, Fufanon (according to the instructions).
As for diseases, at this time the apple and pear often suffer from scab, and some leaf spots are also relevant. If the weather is cool (below +15 degrees), spray the trees with Horusom. If the month is rather warm, one of the following fungicides is effective - Skor, Topsin, Raek, Delan, Cumulus, Topaz, Tridex.
By the way, in the heat, the danger of damage to the apple tree by powdery mildew also increases. For protection, in addition to the above drugs, you can use the fungicides Impact, PSK, TiovitJet, Strike.
Stone fruit crops (cherry, sweet cherry, plum, apricot, peach) in summer are susceptible to such dangerous fungal diseases as moniliosis, clasterosporia, coccomycosis. Cut the affected shoots to healthy wood (or completely remove) and immediately burn, and also remove diseased fruits and fallen leaves from the garden. Spray the crowns with a fungicide (Skor, Delan, Topsin) immediately after flowering. Repeat the treatment two weeks later and after harvest.

TANK MIXTURE FOR MANY PROBLEMS
© Author: Natalia DORONINA, garden designer, Moscow region:
- Summer residents often ask if one spraying can protect trees from pests, diseases, stress, and even feed them. Alas, this will not work. Nevertheless, there are several tank mixes that will protect apples and pears from many problems (scab, aphids, nutritional deficiencies, stress from adverse weather conditions). For example, here's a recipe: dissolve 10 ml of Baikal, 10 ml of Ecosil, 2 tsp in 0 liters of water. Humata + 5, 7 tsp potassium monophosphate and 1 ml of liquid soap. Process the crowns in late June and early July.
ROOT FEEDING
© Author: Julia KONDRATENOK, Breeder-phytopathologist, Ph.D. agricultural sciences,
- When the fruit is the size of a walnut (second half of June), plan exactly foliar feeding (by leaves) of fruit trees with a complex mineral fertilizer - Kemira, Kristalon, Eco-list.
In this case, microelements will immediately enter the leaves, ovaries, growing shoots, fruits. Spraying repeat 1-2 times in 10-14 days. For apple and pear, choose a fertilizer that contains calcium. So you will prevent the bitter pitting of the fruit (physiological disease is caused by a lack of calcium in the soil). Otherwise, apples (primarily of late varieties) become covered with small specks, bitter, poorly stored. And if you plan to store the harvest of winter varieties (Antey, Imant), be sure to spray the trees during the growth and ripening of the fruits with a solution of calcium nitrate (strictly according to the instructions) - two or three treatments with an interval of 10-14 days will be enough.
By the way, if you spray with calcium preparations more cherries, cherries, plums, cherry plums, then the fruits will crack less from rain and are more resistant to fruit rot. One or two treatments are enough. The main thing is that there is no rain during the first three hours - then the drug will have time to be absorbed.
SIDERATES IN BELT CIRCLES
Raisa MATVEEVA, Cand. biol. Sciences:
- Trunk circles in a young garden are kept under steam so that the trees have no competitors for food and moisture. At the same time, since the end of May, siderates (mustard, phacelia, buckwheat, legumes) can be regularly sown in the near-trunk strips, mowing them when they grow a little, and embedding them in the soil. This technique protects the earth from erosion, besides, the green mass will enrich the soil with subtrees with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium. And one more thing: siderates in the second half of summer will take away excess nitrogen from the soil, which will allow the plants to properly prepare for winter.
BEGINNING OF SUMMER - WORK IN RASP
© Author: Olga EMELYANOVA, Associate Professor, Cand. agricultural sciences:
- Summer raspberries bloom in late May and early June. To protect plants from a raspberry beetle from folk remedies, an infusion of tobacco dust is effective (pour 250-300 g of 10 liters of hot water, leave for two days, strain) and a solution of mustard powder (100 g per 10 liters of water). Spray the bushes generously with one of the compositions during the budding period and immediately after flowering. With a massive appearance of pests after flowering, an insecticide can be used (Inta-Vir, Kinmiks, Aktellik, Fufanon).
In May, summer residents had to normalize young shoots, leaving 10-12 pcs. for 1 running meter In June, pinch the tops of these shoots (up to 10 cm). Feed the plants with mullein solution (1:10), then mulch the soil under the bushes with compost and mowed grass.
Wet June weather can cause gray rot on raspberries. For prevention, sprinkle the ground around the bushes with ash, and treat the leaves with a biological product (Fitosporin, Zircon).

STRAWBERRY PLANTATION - CARE AT THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER
Natalia KLAKOTSKAYA, Cand. agricultural sciences.
- Before the beginning of fruiting, regularly loosen and weed the soil in the rows and aisles of strawberries (garden strawberries). Remove the mustache. In dry weather, water the plantation during the setting and growth of berries (early June). When the fruits ripen, additional watering is needed only in severe drought, when there is an acute lack of moisture. Its excess leads to contamination of the berries and their defeat with gray rot. To prevent these problems, 10-15 days before the beginning of the ripening of the crop, cover the soil along the rows with black foil or straw.
ON CURRANT AND GOSEBERRY
© Author: Nikolay KHROMOV, Cand. agricultural sciences:
- In early June, when the ovary grows on currants and gooseberries, it is important to feed the bushes with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. Of potash, it is better to use an aqueous solution of potassium sulfate: under a bush up to five years old - 1 tsp. with a slide for 5 liters of water; for a more mature plant - 2 tsp. for 5 liters of water. From phosphoric, use superphosphate (but already in dry form). Pre-loosen the soil under the bushes, water it well and then spread the fertilizer evenly - 1 tsp each. with a slide under a small plant and 2 tsp. with a slide under the big one. Powdery mildew usually appears on currants and gooseberries in June. Treat the affected bushes at the end of the first decade of the month with a fungicide (Topsin-M, Topaz, Fundazol, Skor, Previkur) according to the instructions.
For prevention, healthy plants can be powdered with ash, having previously arranged sprinkling over the foliage.
