Pepino - growing in the Urals: my reviews
HOW TO GROW URAL PEPINO - THE RESULTS OF MY EXPERIMENT
I want to write about pepino. Agree, in my case, it doesn't matter whether the topic is seasonal. Photos are attached to the story. So.
My husband Yuri and I were on a trip to Paris. There I did not miss the garden shop and looked at a bag of pepino seeds. I read a lot about him on the Internet, but I could not find seeds in my city.
I bought them in the fall, and until January the seeds were waiting for planting. In the second half of January, without treatment, I sowed them in a plastic container with purchased soil under a transparent lid. There were seven in total. Five came up, not soon and not at the same time. At first, of course, they stretched out, but the time came for planting tomatoes, and caring for them became equal and went more vigorously. Each sprout was moved to a 300-gram container and grew in it until it was planted in the garden. Marvel at the seedlings ready to plant on May 31st.
In general, she made me happy while growing up. The sprouts were stocky and fluffy. I have a glazed loggia, and when an acceptable temperature was reached, the seedlings moved there.
From the dates it is clear that in general it took me four and a half months to get strong seedlings.

We have frequent frosts until June 10, so on May 31, pepino is not yet in the garden. I identified the finished seedlings at the appointed time in two houses: a poly carbonate greenhouse and a polycarbonate greenhouse. The first place came up better.
In the greenhouse, between the tomatoes, one planted plant settled down well and gave color, but soon it was attacked by a spider mite. The treatments did not help, and until the pomidors became infected, I pulled out the pepino with regret.
The bottom of the plant was planted in the greenhouse (I gave two more out of five to my friend), and there things went smoothly. The design of the greenhouse provides for a hinged cover. All warm days the greenhouse was open, which contributed to a good pollination of the plants.
Photo with fruits dated September 15th. At this time, we have frequent frosts. Therefore, the fruits were removed. Of course, our Ural summer was not enough for them. But the readers of the magazine are also southerners, and they are able to grow tasty fruits. There is a video on the Internet of a Czech woman who, over the summer, has grown a bush above her with delicious melons.
My trophies are in the photo. They turned out tasteless and dense. Maybe it was worth growing them at home by transplanting them into a container? Only I lost interest in pepino: almost nine months - and no sense in the result. And a lot of yummy food in the garden in the fall.
But I have not regretted the experiment. I realized that pepino is not for the Urals, but southerners should definitely try it!
I also wanted to note: pepino should be pinned, like tomatoes. Stepsons take root at the expense of times! It is quite possible to get an adult plant by the next season.
This is my story. Pray for me, and I wish you all good health!
Just in case, I include my dear spouse Yuri Yurievich as co-authors.
