Spraying and processing the garden at the end of summer

GARDEN AT THE END OF SUMMER: STRENGTHENING DEFENSE
Having given a lot of energy to the formation of the crop, fruit plants must somehow make up for this loss. And our task is to help them not only with feeding, but also with protection. Let's talk about the latest events in more detail.
SPRAYING CHERRY, CHERRY IN SUMMER
The harvest was removed, but many notice yellow leaves on the trees. This is the first sign of coccomycosis. Fungal disease causes premature leaf fall and severely weakens the plants. Therefore, without hesitation, you need to spray them with a systemic fungicide (Skor, Horus, Topaz, Topsin-M, Raek), in the solution of which add an insecticide (Aktara, Konfidor, Inta-Vir) against aphids, which rapidly in August in good weather reproduces. Soluble fertilizer can also be added to such a tank mixture - for example, Kristalon brown, Ecolist. Process in calm weather. If there are vegetables or fruit and berry plants growing nearby that have not yet been harvested, cover them with foil or spunbond.
SPRAYING APPLE, PEAR IN SUMMER
Fall and winter trees now need to be protected from scab, fruit rot and pests that can significantly undermine our harvest plans. Use the aforementioned drugs.
On apple and pear trees of the summer ripening period, you can use the biological products Frutin, Ecosad, Ecosil, Bactogen, Baktofit, Fitosporin. To combat the moth and various types of sawflies, Lepidocide or Bitoxibacillin are suitable.
A little secret: if you treat the apple trees of winter and late winter varieties three times with the same Frutin, Ecosad, Alirin-B at intervals of a week (and the last spraying is 3 days before harvesting and laying the fruits for storage), this will significantly reduce the risk of apples morbidity with rot already in storage.
For plums and cherry plums, the same protective measures are relevant as for apple trees and pears of summer varieties. Remove dried fruit from the branches after harvest. And remove the carrion in a timely manner.

SPRAYING CURRANTS AND GOESBERRY
Powdery mildew spoils the harvest on these berry fields. And now, when the fruits have been removed, be sure to spray the bushes with a fungicide (Topaz, Pennkotseb, Ridomil Gold).
Adherents of more environmentally friendly methods of protection can use colloidal sulfur on currants (but not on gooseberries, which are sensitive to sulfur) - the drug also fights mites.
SHORT
Take a closer look at the black currant bushes: in young wrinkled brown leaves there may be milky-white or slightly yellowish larvae of the last generation of currant leaf gall midge, which will go to winter in the soil. This should not be allowed - tear off the leaves with the larvae and burn them.
In early August, in the hunting belts on the apple tree, you can see a pink caterpillar with a brown head, pupae or empty larval skins. This is a signal of the beginning of flight of the second generation codling moth butterflies. It is difficult to deal with them during the ripening period, but still there will be fewer of them if you destroy the trapped caterpillars and pupae and regularly collect the carrion.
In mid-August, on sea buckthorn, the fruits often discolor, become flabby, burst and spread. This is a lesion with endomycosis. Its pathogen overwinters in the skin of diseased fruits. Therefore, harvest them before the main harvest and destroy them outside the garden.

SUMMER CUTTING. CAN? NECESSARY!
I will spend my vacation in August at the dacha. I plan to pay more attention to the orchard, including the pruning of plants. And the neighbor discourages, they say, this should be done only in early spring. Which of us is right?
Nikolay Tkachev, Vyazma
- Spring pruning is a tribute to established traditions. In the summer, you can and should prune trees! For example, stone fruit crops (cherry, sweet cherry, plum). The procedure carried out immediately after harvesting does not cause gum leakage, which is inevitable for spring pruning. By winter, the wounds heal well, and there will be no resinous discharge.
In bush cherry varieties (for example, Lyubskaya) and cultivated cherry plum (Russian plum), the cutting of fruit-bearing branches and shortening of the shoots of the current year causes a more active laying of new flower buds on the shoots of the current year, which means regular fruiting. Summer pruning makes it easy to get rid of small branch lesions with dangerous diseases (moniliosis, cytosporosis, black cancer).
And most importantly, it will not leave the causative agent of the disease to spend the winter in the garden. For actinidia creepers, late summer pruning is the main measure that allows you to keep it in a healthy state. The lashes shortened to 50-60 cm do not sap and winter well.
It is also better to cut out old bare shoots of lemongrass after picking the berries.
In August, remove old branches from currants and gooseberries - this will heal the bush, allow young shoots to develop comfortably and lay a bountiful harvest for the next year.
