STAMP FORM OF CURRANT OWN HANDS
Western farmers, and in recent years our gardeners are increasingly growing currants and gooseberries not in bushes, but in standard form. And they claim that this method has advantages over traditional cultivation.
First of all, such bushes, due to their compact placement, are just a godsend for small areas. They are also decorative. Plants are easily ventilated and are less exposed to disease risk. Pruning and harvesting are simplified, and the berries on such trees are larger, better colored, sweeter. But there are also disadvantages: standard forms, in comparison with bush forms, have a shorter lifespan, worse winter hardiness. In addition, the selection of plants of certain varieties is required.
There are three ways to form a standard gooseberry or currant shape.
In the fall, a one-year-old seedling is planted vertically in a single shoot in a permanent place. If the plant has several shoots, the strongest is left, the rest are cut out. The next year, after planting the seedling, all lateral growths are removed on it to a height of 0,8-1 m, and the top is pinched by 7-10 cm for subsequent branching. The emerging root shoots are also cut out. And in the summer they definitely put a support. Fruiting - in the 3rd year after planting.
A tree "in a case"
When the plant reaches a height of 0,8-1 m, a tube made of opaque material is put on it for the length of the stem, burying it into the soil by 5-7 cm.The top of the shoot is cut off - it should be 10 cm higher than the tube.

Golden Currant Graft
In autumn or spring, a one-year-old seedling of golden currant is planted and formed into one shoot 1,2-1,5 m high. Lateral shoots are pinched. At the end of July-beginning of August, when the bark of the plant is well separated, the grafting is carried out by means of budding. A few days before this, the plant is well watered. The material and tools must be perfectly clean.
A T-shaped incision is made on the bark of the stock (golden currant), and a shield (part of the bark with a bud) 1,5-2,5 cm long is cut off on the graft of the scion with an budding knife. The graft is inserted under the bark of the stock and tied with an elastic film. Next year, in the spring, the stock with an established oculant is pruned. When the latter reaches 10 cm, it is tied to a thorn. Further, the plant is formed as described in the first method.
Caring for a mini-tree is the same as for a bush form of currants or gooseberries: fertilizing, watering, weeding, loosening. Every year, shoots that violate its shape are removed from the crown. And in order to forget about constant weeding, the near-trunk circle of mini-trees must be mulched with flax, sawdust or put spunbond.
FACT: FOR FORMING IN A STAMP FORM, BLACK CURRANT IS SUITABLE LESS BECAUSE OF THE SHORT-LIFE OF THE FRUITING BRANCHES. IT IS BETTER TO TAKE VARIETIES WITH A STRAIGHT SHAPE SHAPE - FOR EXAMPLE, VERTICAL, CANTATA. TITANIUM.
