Rot on gladioli - how to fight?
GLADIOLUSES AND ... ROTS
It is important to observe gladioli during their growth in order to recognize in time the problems that appear in the second half of summer, and not to lose the plants.
Gray rot, or botrytis, develops in damp cool weather (below +18 degrees) and usually in the second half of summer.
The leaves are covered with light brown spots, a gray bloom forms, and the disease passes into the bulb.
Plants need to be dug up earlier, otherwise they will turn into a soggy mass. With a weak lesion, after drying, a hole is noticeable from the base of the stem to the bottom.
Solid rot, or septoria, - small reddish-brown spots with a dark border appear on the leaves. The plant looks bad, blooms poorly. During storage, spots on corms turn into hard rot, limited from healthy tissue. Small damage can be cut out, sprinkled with crushed coal and sulfur. The disease is more pronounced on acidic depleted soil and persists in it for up to 4 years.
Dry rot, or sclerotinosis, is more common in damp places. At first, the tips of the leaves turn yellow and their base is damaged.
Then the stem rots, breaks, leaf tissue disintegrates, and the plant dies. With a small lesion in dry storage, the disease stops and the bulbs can subsequently form a normally flowering plant. It is necessary to dig it up at an earlier date.

EFFECTIVE MEASURES AGAINST GLADIOLUS ROT
To protect gladioli from rot, every 10 days, spray alternately with one of the preparations diluted in 10 liters of water: Fundazole (30 g), chlorine oxide {40 g), potassium permanganate (1,5 g), 1% Bordeaux liquid, copper sulfate (20 g) with green soap (200 g), infusion of garlic (300 g). A week before digging, water the plants with a solution of potassium permanganate - 3-5 g / 10 l / sq. m.

IT'S EASY TO SAVE GLADIOLES
Novice growers ask: what to do with gladioli corms after drying? I do this: I wrap each onion with paper, put it in a cardboard box, add a few cloves of garlic to the container (to protect against pests), and put it in the cellar. If it is absent, planting material can be stored in the lower compartment of the refrigerator.
