Growing cucumbers in containers (buckets, etc.) planting and care

CUCUMBERS WILL GROW IN CONTAINERS!
It is very easy to grow cucumbers in containers, then if you do not have your own plot.
SELECTION OF SEEDS OF CUCUMBERS FOR CONTAINER GROWING
For indoor cultivation, I choose parthenocarpic hybrids that do not require bees. Bee-pollinated varieties are also suitable for growing on the street, but their yield depends not only on my care, but also on the weather.
If the summer is cold and rainy, then insects do not fly and do not pollinate cucumbers.
The second very important point when choosing seeds is the ripening period. There are hybrids, the first harvest from which you can start harvesting with proper care in 45 days. I draw my attention to the shape and size of the lashes. For growing in containers, it is best to use short-growing varieties (also called bush varieties). The lashes of such cucumbers usually grow up to 1, 6-1, 8 m long, and fruiting begins almost from the lowest axils of the leaves (for example, the hummingbird and Smiley hybrids, the Kustovoy variety).
Council
For growing in winter in an apartment any varieties of cucumbers will definitely need additional lighting.
If I plan to grow cucumbers on a windowsill in winter or early spring, then I choose hybrids that are resistant to low light. Usually the description on the packaging says this. If it is supposed to be placed in pots in the open air, then this feature will not be important. I would also like to draw your attention to the Zozul hybrid. My family has been using it for cultivation in pots since Soviet times.
WHAT TO PLANT CUCUMBERS - SELECTION OF POTS AND CONTAINERS
Cucumbers can grow in ordinary flower pots, but I want to harvest a decent crop, so I take pots with a volume of at least 5 liters. To achieve long-term fruiting in these conditions, I use liquid fertilizers.
It is better for cucumbers to grow in a wide container than in a deep one, because their root system is located in the upper layer of soil about 20-25 cm thick. This means that old pots and baths are more suitable for them than for other vegetables.
Cucumbers require neutral or slightly acidic soil and good lighting for better assimilation of dressings.

WHERE TO PLACE CUCUMBERS IN CONTAINERS?
As you know, cucumbers are a very thermophilic culture. For them, the optimal night temperature is 20 * C. Therefore, containers (buckets or boxes) are very convenient to put first in a greenhouse or in a warm room, if the sowing was done at a time when they still cannot grow on the street due to the cold. You can place containers with cucumbers near the southern walls of buildings and fences. In addition, a covering material is attached to the wall and the plants are closed at night.
Cucumbers are very demanding on soil moisture, which is why I use a hydrogel for growing them. Once I went on vacation for 10 days and left containers with cucumbers without watering, but a hydrogel was laid in the soil since spring, which did not let my plants die!
Of course, their general condition was not the best, but after my return they quickly recovered.
SEEDING CUCUMBERS IN CONTAINERS
I sow the cucumbers immediately in a container with warm soil, because the sprouts are very sensitive to transplanting and do not tolerate it well, greatly delaying development. If the soil warms up to 22-30 * C, then seedlings will appear literally 3-5 days and begin to develop rapidly.
I spill the holes with water before I put the seeds in them, and I just sprinkle the seeds themselves with moist, but loose soil. This will prevent the formation of a crust on the surface, which will prevent young sprouts from making their way to the light. For accelerated germination, I cover the container with glass or polyethylene.
FORMATION
A very important point when growing cucumbers is the formation of lashes. If you forget about this, the plant can begin to gain green mass to the detriment of fruiting. All stepchildren on the main shoot are removed up to 5 leaves.
Above it, I shorten the stepsons to the first sheet, leaving the ovaries.
FEEDING CONTAINER CUCUMBERS
Cucumbers are very sensitive to feeding, and usually I feed them every 7-10 days at least with an infusion of the herb. As soon as food begins to be insufficient, the leaves turn yellow. However, sometimes the reason lies in the quality of the soil or lighting.
By the way
I make supports for cucumbers in the form of pyramids from willow or walnut branches.
HARVESTING
It is very important to collect greens on time, preventing them from overgrowing. If you leave the cucumbers on the plant for a long time, then they will sharply slow down the growth of the overlying ovaries. For example, we went on vacation when there were a lot of ovaries on the cucumber plants, and when we returned a week later, we found fruits almost from floor to ceiling. Of course, I harvested, watered and fed the plants, but it took them about ten days to recover.
