Of the 200 species of this plant, only three delight with edible fruits - viburnum, American and Sargent. Red sweet and sour berries taste a little bitter, but after the first frost the bitterness practically disappears. Fruits contain up to 10% sugars, as well as pectins, vitamins, tannins and minerals. The seeds contain 21% fatty oil.
In medicine, not only fruits are used, but also viburnum bark containing, in addition to tannins, organic acids, resins and vitamin C. This allows it to be used as a hemostatic, antiseptic, sedative and anticonvulsant.

The fruits also have a sedative effect, as well as a general tonic. Viburnum juice and tea with its berries help with hypertension, and the infusion of fruits treats stomach and duodenal ulcers, enterocolitis, relieves swelling.
Viburnum berries are great for jam, jelly, marshmallow, baking filling.
