Strawberries in high beds, in one line and with mulch (Nizhny Novgorod)
HIGH RED STRAWBERRY AND COMPATIBLE PLANTS
I have a plot of 17 acres, there is where to turn around. True, the land was not too fertile - sandy. But I still love her very much. Ready to sit in the beds. I grow everything I need for myself on them. And, of course, there is also a place for strawberries. Through trial and error, I stopped planting this culture in one line, and the beds under it are framed with slate (the boards rot too quickly, and ants constantly grow between them and the ground).
I put old magazines, school notebooks and cardboard in the borders, and on top I fill them with sawdust: it is convenient to weed, and the plot looks aesthetically pleasing. In some places, closer to the edge of the slate, I plant small cloves of garlic (the remains of the main plantings}, which I have there for two years. And at the beginning and at the end of the beds I plant a bush of low marigolds.
I root the antennae immediately in seedling jars filled with earth. As soon as fresh leaves appear on these antennae, I cut them off from the mother bushes and transplanted them to a new bed, shading them from above with plastic fruit boxes.
By the way, about the "decoy" plants.
After all, I use this technique not only in the beds with strawberries. For example, in the greenhouse where I have tomatoes, I plant bushes of fragrant tobacco along the edges of the ridges - its sticky leaves protect the green neighbors well from the whitefly. And in the middle of the tomato rows I plant marigolds on a bush, which help the plantings to escape from the nematode.
Well, to protect against phytophthora, I hang three vials of iodine (without lids) from phytophthora in a greenhouse under the roof. When planting seedlings, I put feathers from an old feather bed, fresh nettle leaves, a pinch of ash, eggshells and onion peels in the holes, a handful of humus, and 1/2 teaspoon each. superphosphate.
I water everything with a hot solution of potassium permanganate, then, without delay, with warm clean water and plant seedlings in this slurry, which I then cover with dry earth. Between the bushes I bury plastic "poltorashki" with cut-off bottoms, mulch with dry grass and pieces of paper. In the fall, I rake this mulch into bags, and in the spring I fill it with potatoes in the furrows. My greenhouse in the fall with mustard powder, sprinkle with ashes, dig up and sow with mustard seeds.
NOTE: "WILD" STRAWBERRY
For some reason, I have never seen articles about the appearance of wild bushes on strawberry beds. Only from them - zero, but they themselves are very tenacious and resistant to disease. Where do these "comrades" come from? As far as I understand, from the berries left on the ground rotted or spoiled by slugs. Why remove them? They will rot - at least they will be useful.
In fact, the seeds of these fruits germinate later. Will you say that this cannot be with varietal strawberries? You are wrong. I personally have been growing Festivalnaya for a long time, and "wild" bushes are found from time to time. And if I do not have time to remove them in time, they begin to actively multiply. And now I revise the plantings twice: during flowering and at the beginning of berry ripening, when the wild bushes are very easy to notice.

In the evening I water the garden, I see several unripe strawberries, but in the morning they are gone. Who is it that feasts on my berries? There are a lot of frogs on the site, but I don't think they are eating strawberries. What should I do?
