MULTI-TIE BOW - PROS AND CONS, GROWING TIPS
Cultivation tiered bow not only gives pleasure (and almost all year round), but also allows you to think about the agricultural technology of all types of this culture.
Several years ago, in the spring, they gave me several bushes of green onions and told me in detail how to care for them, explaining that this onion is not simple, but multi-tiered. And I was delighted, because after I read about him in Dacha, I was eager to grow him in my garden. But the trouble is, I did not know where to get planting material, since in our rural area I had never seen such a bow from anyone. And suddenly such a good case! Well, I'll check if this Chippolino is really that good.
The bushes took root perfectly and immediately gave a lot of juicy and not at all bitter in taste greens.
And most importantly, it appeared much earlier than other varieties of common onions, including those planted to obtain greens before winter.
Okay, okay, let's continue testing. I gradually cut off all the juicy and delicate feathers for salads, leaving only a few of the most powerful and coarse ones to make sure whether this onion is really multi-tiered. And if so, I wanted to know how small air bulbs will hold on to the feathers? It's interesting! Photos are one thing, but living plants are another. Here all sorts of nuances can open up.

MULTI-TIERED BOW - THE FIRST BIRTH OF SPRING
Well, in general, already in the summer my onion from the remaining tubular feathers released strong arrows, at the tips of which tiny onions in the form of flowers were born. And each of them consisted of five more onions. I did not cut them off and continued to observe. To my surprise, when they grew up and filled up, they also released arrows, but not so powerful. Very soon, air bulbs formed there too. Indeed, the multi-tiered bow turned out! But the main thing is that I later found out the following experimentally.
If you need good planting material, you must carefully pluck out the smallest ones from the second generation of set bulbs. And those who remain on the arrows will grow large, as on the first tier. At the same time, they will look like onion sets: rounder, with hard stalks and lighter clothing.
Already at the end of July - beginning of August (depending on the weather) I cut off all the arrows from the underground bulbs and collect trophies from the tiers: the bulbs of the first are suitable for eating, the second should be left for seeds, especially since they are perfectly stored until spring planting ...
I note that the bulbs do not grow much in the soil - they are usually no more than 4 cm in diameter - and serve mainly to obtain early greenery: in the spring it begins to peep out right from under the snow! Great, because at this time there is still no greenery at all. Well, maybe grown on a windowsill, but its taste cannot be compared with a young snowdrop onion.
By the way, the multi-tiered onion on my window also grows beautifully all winter in a cake lid filled with loose earth, which I always keep in a wet state: the main thing here is not to overdo it with watering. Although this lid is on the south window, I still illuminate the beam with electric lamps. Of course, I do not allow the appearance of arrows in a multi-tiered onion at home, and the greens are still as tender, juicy and vitamin-rich as if they grew in a garden, and the same mild taste.
But the usual large turnip bulbs, when grown on the windowsill, are capricious, they do not germinate for a long time, and then the greenery turns out to be some kind of "weird". This year, probably, I will no longer germinate a turnip at home for greenery. A tiered bow is the right solution for winter!

In the spring, I plant a multi-tiered onion in a well-fertilized land. But for this I choose the garden bed that is necessarily next to the fence from the chain-link mesh, to which I tie the plants with twine, as soon as they have powerful tubular arrows and the first tier of bulbs. If this is not done, the bulbs, under the weight of their weight, will bend arrows to the ground and quickly sprout next to the mother bushes.
And this will lead to thickening of the plantings. As soon as the first tier gets stronger and the growth of the second begins, we also tie it up with twine. I must admit here that the third tier of bulbs has not yet been grown: we have problems with frequent watering, so the onion does not get moisture in full. The literature says that multi-tiered onions can grow well in one place, give juicy greens and airy bulbs for 10 years. But I still increase its plantings every year, planting it on separate beds both before winter and in spring. If I had my way - I would give half of the garden for this onion, because his feather is very tasty! And you can "get" it to the table all summer long.
I missed to cut off tender greens in time - arrows with air bulbs are right there. In addition, this onion is also very productive: more than 10 bulbs grow on one arrow in two tiers.
This is enough to grow a whole new bed at once! And most importantly, in the very first year, you can get a yellow, round offspring with good clothes.
