Tomatoes in high beds - my reviews
TOMATOES: HARVEST TWO BUCKETS DAILY
For those for whom the weather prevents them from growing tomatoes, there are two options: to urgently raise their beds, as the author of the letter did, or to do everything as before, and complain, complain, complain
This year I have grown a very large harvest on my site and I want to share my experience with summer residents who strive to get excellent harvests of ripe tomatoes.
I took the seeds from my relatives and independently grew seedlings on the windows, then planted them in a greenhouse and in open ground. Last year I was visiting friends in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Their summer is much colder, but the harvest of tomatoes in the open field is consistently good. Here, in the Middle Lane, summer is also not always hot, sometimes there is not enough heat for the ripening of tomatoes. So I decided this year to use their experience to get an early harvest, i.e. plant tomatoes in raised beds.
I just poured soil into rows, about 35-45 cm higher than the footpaths, on both sides. To get it smooth and neat, you can make wooden boxes and form the beds. For tall tomatoes I made the rows wide - up to 1 m, for low-growing ones - narrower. The direction of the rows is from east to west, so that the plants stay in the sun longer. Then she leveled the beds so that the water flowed to the roots of the plants, and not down the rows.
In high ridges, the sun warms the soil not only on the surface, but also on the sides. As a result, the ground quickly warms up from all sides, the roots of plants receive warmth and tomatoes grow much faster.
The first tomatoes ripened at the beginning of June. This planting method maximizes the use of sunlight and heat and produces ripe fruits much earlier than from plants planted in simple, low beds.
That is why I would like to advise everyone who grows tomatoes in the open field, especially northerners and Siberians, to use raised beds.
TOMATO VARIETIES - THE BEST OF THE BEST
And this year I helped the tomatoes with pollination. Plants self-pollinate, anther and pistil are located on the same flower, and all I did was gently wiggle the flower clusters. The pollen falls on the pistil, the flower is pollinated, and this is a guarantee that all the fruits will be tied. I did this once a day when the flowers were blooming. The plants had so many ovaries that they had to tie up the branches almost every day!
She looked after the plants as usual: she watered the tomatoes with water heated in the sun, fed them with ash and herbal solution. Tall varieties of tomatoes are pinched, undersized ones are not.
From phytophthora, every two weeks I sprayed it with a solution of milk and iodine: 10 liter of milk and 1 drops of iodine were added to 10 liters of water. I sprayed the tomatoes with a broom so that it would flow from the bushes. My tomatoes have never been sick with late blight.
The earliest harvest of tomatoes was obtained by me in June, and later there were so many of them that we removed two buckets of ripe fruits almost every day!
In conclusion, I would like to say that the tomato harvest this year was simply wonderful. The fruits grew sweet, tasty, fragrant. The selection of varieties, of course, played an important role in this.
This year I planted mostly early and undersized varieties. It is very easy to care for them, they do not need to be pinned, it is more convenient to tie up branches, and they ripen even in cold summer.
Here are some of the varieties that have produced the best yields.
Pink breeze is a low-growing tomato variety up to 1 m high, early ripening, does not pick up. Fruits are pink, fleshy, juicy, dense, weighing up to 200 g, well stored.
Pink Persian is a stunted plant, does not stepchild, early ripening. Fruits are pink in color, large, weighing up to 500 g, good taste.
Raspberry Dawns - a low-growing variety of tomato no more than 1 m in height, early ripening, does not stepchild, very productive. Raspberry-colored fruits, weighing up to 300 g, tasty.
The Scarlet East is a fruitful, undersized variety of early ripening, does not follow. Fruits of bright scarlet color, weighing up to 200 g, good taste.
The Japanese gnome is a stunted plant, early-middle ripening, does not stepchild. The variety is fruitful. Fruits are red, dense, weighing up to 200 g.
Tomatoes of all colors and any shape are suitable for pickling, but it is better to use small fruits. The brine is prepared differently depending on the ripeness of the tomatoes. For green and brown tomatoes for 10 liters of water, take 700-800 g of salt, but red tomatoes, especially large ones, will require a stronger brine.

Do-it-yourself tomato on two legs
If you grow tomato seedlings yourself, you have the opportunity to grow bushes on two roots.
Choose two plants growing 1-2 cm apart. When the seedlings have grown and the thickness of the stem is sufficient for processing, with a sharp razor, remove the top layer from both plants from the side that they face each other. Strip the stems so that the cambium is exposed - the tissue that ensures the growth of plants in thickness. Stripping length 2-3 cm. After that, tilt the plants towards each other so that the exposed sections of the stems are aligned. Wrap this place tightly with a polyethylene ribbon about 1 cm wide. Grow a paired bush as a regular seedling.
Shortly before planting seedlings in the ground, in the plant that develops worse after the operation, pinch the top, leave 3-5 cm above the cut. The plant transplanted into the ground develops rapidly, as it has a powerful dual root system. When it finally gets stronger, the ribbon is removed.
