How to save plums from aphids - my recipe
Aphids ON PLUM - WHAT TO DO
When cleaning the garden, when it came to the area with raspberries, in its thickets I found a small sprout of a plum. Since she was the only one on the site, she decided to leave, freeing the plant from the raspberry tree. She began to look after: every year, in early spring, she whitewashed the trunk of a grown tree, watered it regularly, fed it. As a result, after 4 years, the plum bore fruit, which turned out to be very tasty - sweet, but not sugary. Every year the tree gave more and more crops.
This spring, the plum was covered with flowers. That means there will be many fruits - I decided. And I already planned to make prunes (dry the fruits). But after flowering, aphids attacked the tree, then a black bloom appeared on the leaves. I decided to fight. I sprayed the crown with Topaz. And a week later she used tar soap: she grated one bar, poured it into 10 liters of hot water, stirred it and left it to cool for an hour. Then she mixed again and added 300 g of sifted ash to the soap solution. She insisted for 3 hours, filtered and generously sprayed the plum over the leaves. And the shower from the irrigation hose turned out to be effective: every evening I directed the hose with water to the tree and poured the drain from a small diffuser.
A few days later I saw the result: there was much less black plaque on the leaves, and the aphid disappeared altogether.
By the end of August, there were so many pouring outflows that it was necessary to put supports under the branches. I was worried that the fruits would be wormy when ripe, but no, there was not a single wormhole! The harvest was enough to eat, and freeze, and dry on prunes. It’s a pity, I don’t know the name of the variety of this wonderful plum ...

Expert opinion
You did everything right. And therefore, in this difficult year for fruit trees, they received a good harvest.
As for the name of the cultivated variety, from the photo of the fruit, we can confidently say that this is a Hungarian variety type. It is difficult to name more specifically, since this variety type has more than a hundred varieties, including those grown in the Voronezh region.

From the parents got a plum, which took root throughout the garden. How can you get rid of this misfortune?
#
- It is quite possible that part of the shoots (closer to the main trunk) is the root growth of an old tree. But most of the plants are seedlings from seeds sprouted in the ground, since you did not collect fallen fruits, the seeds in the stones went through natural stratification in winter and every spring gave friendly shoots.
I advise you to uproot the old tree and buy plum seedlings of new large-fruited varieties in your region from the fruit nursery.
There are two ways to get rid of root shoots and seedlings:
- apply herbicides, but in this case, in the coming years, you will not be able to grow anything in this place;
- Using a well-ground garden shovel, dig out all the young plants.
