Choosing a variety of tomatoes for Tatarstan - my reviews
VARIETIES OF TOMATOES FOR TATARSTAN - WHAT I TESTED AND MY REVIEWS
The more cheeky the weather behaves, the more important it becomes to choose the “right” varieties. They are, of course, different in different regions, but there are, as it were, universal. The author of the article will help you to take a closer look at them and evaluate them.
Hello, dear workaholic gardeners! It’s already September, we can draw some conclusions. I decided to write not about the method of growing a particular crop, but to share my thoughts on the choice of tomato varieties. My mother and I chose them for ourselves empirically.
The fact is that this year we planted 18 varieties - yes, don't be surprised, we planted three or four seeds each. And now it became clear to us what suits us, what we liked. Even in this abnormally hot summer, there were varieties that simply conquered us! I am writing for those who have not yet been able to decide, my notes will definitely help them with the choice. I think I will not disappoint anyone.
So, we have a plot of 6 acres and two greenhouses, one - 6, the other - 4 m. In a small one we grow cucumbers and tomatoes. It is here that we planted two varieties this year - White filling (traditional choice) and the opening of the season Orange variety (Chelyabinsk selection). Probably everyone knows about the White filling, this is a cool variety that has long established itself, abundant, problem-free, with delicious fruits suitable both for preservation and for salads.
But the newcomer Orange surprised us with his abundance, beauty, bright orange color and no less pronounced tomato flavor. The variety is tall, our fruits were yielded by an average of 120-150 g. I have already canned jars with them.
Now about the big greenhouse. There I have three beds, and I decided to plant tomato seedlings, like flowers, on a flower bed: yellow in the center, red and black along the edges. By and large, we liked everything, but I would especially like to highlight those that seemed to me just excellent (of course, this is my subjective opinion).
In the first place is the Pink Giant variety: it turned out to be the earliest and most productive.
I will make a reservation right away: he is not a giant in our country, the fruits are average in size - 150-200 g. Perhaps, this is only for me, but for someone else it is different. The main thing is that the tomatoes are delicious, the peel is removed easily, the flesh is pink.
I think that the first place can be shared with the Giant and the Alsou variety. He has rather large tomatoes, I got them weighing from 270 to 390 g, although, judging by the annotation on the package, they should be even larger. But here's what struck: they turned out to be the sweetest of all. Delicious, juicy! Yes, definitely the first place.
It is not the first year that I have been planting the French bunchy variety. If you want a guaranteed harvest, plant it. An impeccable variety for food and preservation.
These are all red-fruited varieties that we decided to plant next year. And of the yellow ones, I liked the Honey domes, however, they are not as sweet for me as stated in the annotation. But we must pay tribute: the variety is fruitful, beautiful and tasty.
Of the dark varieties, I think we will reuse the Black Bison. Abundant fruiting, large tomatoes 250-300 g each.
I also planted the Hot Coals variety, it has medium-sized (90-110 g) fruits, but look how interesting!
We liked them very much: bright, even super pronounced tomato taste! Despite this, it is unlikely that I will focus on them, they turned out to be not so fruitful, rather, for beauty.
I would also like to tell you about cherry varieties that constantly delight with their harvest. I have it Black Pearl and Golden Drop. This year I planted a novelty - Your Honor, I also liked it.
Well, something like this. If the presented list of varieties is useful to someone, I will be glad. They could have produced a bigger crop, but in such terrible weather conditions, it's amazing how anything really grew!
And time goes by. The nature seems to urge us on, as if it’s autumn - the flowers are fading, the fruits ripen ... I wish happiness to all lovers of the earth!
By the way
It is worth taking a closer look at the mid-early variety Hot Coals (Fire Coals): it is resistant to all diseases, perfectly tolerates any whims of the weather and gives a crop even in a rainy summer and not in the sunniest place. Bushes 1-1,2 m high, in a greenhouse up to 1,8 m. Pinching and shaping of the bush (in two or three stems) are required. The period from emergence to the beginning of fruiting is approximately 115 days. Planting seedlings 50-60 days before transplanting to a permanent place. If you follow the rules of care, Hot coals will not only decorate your beds, but also delight you with great taste!
