Chives, slime and dzhusay - cultivation in the suburbs
JUSAI, SHNITT AND SLIZUN - HOW TO GROW IN THE MOSCOW REGION
In addition to the usual onions (sets), which I plant every year, I also have three varieties of perennial onions - chives, slugs and dzhusay.
Schnitt and slug are very early, and begin to grow when there is almost no snow left in the fields, while dzhusai starts growing after them. All three species are very unpretentious, so they took root well and grew on the site.
I planted chives with dug out bulbs in early autumn. The slime, as I understand it, has no bulbs, so I planted it with a piece, separated from the general overgrown mass, also at the beginning of autumn. Jusai was originally planted with seeds, and when he grew, he replanted with already slightly sprouted bulbs in the spring.
All three types of perennial onions grow both in the sun and in partial shade. Every year I pour ashes under them and occasionally loosen them. I water them very rarely, too, if a complete drought sets in, and so the rains are enough for them.
The grown chives taste like the greens of regular onions that are planted on a turnip, only their feathers are much thinner. Slime, on the other hand, grows with wide, fleshy feathers and has a faint aftertaste.
knock. When cutting greens into droplets, juice is released that resembles tears. Cut slime can be stored for a long time even without a refrigerator. Jusai also has a garlic flavor.
Before planting dzhusai seeds, I learned that seed germination is very poor. Therefore, in the fall, I bought three bags of seeds from different producers and planted them in heaps on the site before winter in different places. The next year, the seeds sprouted only in one place. In the third year, I planted the Jusai grown by me in a more suitable place for him.
I tear the chives and slime greens before flowering, and I start to tear the jusai when it reaches a height of 10-15 cm: during this period, its small feathers are still juicy and tender.
