I grew green onions on the windowsill all winter. The last planting was not a success: the tips of the feathers turn yellow, but do not dry, but become wet, then white. What kind of attack is this?

      — What you described is very similar to nitrogen deficiency in the soil. In this case, you need to apply nitrogen fertilizers. You can use urea, a small dose is enough: 1 g of fertilizer per 1 liter of water. Dissolve well and water the plants. For one onion - 100 ml of composition.

ALL YEAR ROUND WITH AROMATIC GREENS

In our family, seasonings that we grow ourselves are on the table all year round. We grow one of the spices - coriander - in the summer in the garden, in the winter on the windowsill.
In summer, I sow every 20 days with row spacing of 25 cm, and in winter - in an apartment in boxes at a distance of 10 cm between rows, and between plants 5 cm. I grow the Yantar variety. This is an annual, cold-resistant, mid-season (35-50 days from germination to harvest) plant.

Caring for coriander consists of loosening and watering. Growth is enhanced by mineral supplements, which I spend immediately after watering: I fertilize twice a month with urea at the rate of 20 g per 7 liters of water.

    Pale leaves? Not enough light!

Every year I grow dill, parsley and onions on the windowsill. During this time, I realized that each plant needs its own conditions.

For example, parsley grows well only in the cold. I sow the seeds in pots with nutrient soil, cover with a dark bag and put them on the battery. And as soon as they appear
shoots, I take the plants to the glazed insulated balcony.

In winter, my temperature there is kept at around +5 ... +7 degrees, no more. But parsley is enough. By spring, when the sun begins to warm, the bushes become strong and give a lot of greenery. Dill and onions, on the contrary, need heat and moisture. I keep them in the apartment on the southern windowsill, and next to each pot I put a container of water. The moisture evaporates and the plants feel good. True, this year all my greens are growing pale and not very lush.

Although this does not affect the taste of the leaves.

Many people think: once the plants are enough. Therefore, you need to install it on the windowsill, and even on the south one, then they don’t need any more lighting, except for what they have. In fact, this is absolutely not the case. For photosynthesis to occur fully, plants simply need light. When the daylight hours are short and there are a lot of cloudy days, the lights are not lamps for supplementary illumination and illuminate the greenery at least from 6-7 to 18-19 hours. Otherwise, the plants will stretch, the color of their leaves will be atypical, and therefore, a good harvest is not even worth dreaming of.

Like many representatives of the male half of humanity, I have a special love for the fragrant parsley.
I can eat almost everything with fresh leaves of this spicy herb, except, of course, sweet dishes. Therefore, I was always sorry when the summer season came to an end and I had to go on a “diet” until spring. But a couple of years ago I made a pleasant discovery for myself: it turns out that parsley in winter can also develop perfectly in the house on the windowsill.

Now, in late autumn (sometimes even at the beginning of winter, from under a layer of snow), I dig out a few parsley roots from the garden and bring them home to the city. In plants, I cut off all the old leaves flush with the conditional root collar and plant 2-3 pieces in flower pots so that only the tops slightly peek out of the ground. Especially for this purpose, I purchased high flower bowls with a depth of about 20-25 cm - in such capacious containers, parsley feels more comfortable in winter. I prepare the soil for planting on my own: I mix garden soil and well-ripened compost in equal proportions and add a glass of sifted wood ash to the bucket of the mixture. After planting, I water the roots and put the pots on the window facing the south side. In addition, next to the containers I install a table lamp with a long “neck”, into which I screw an energy-saving fluorescent light bulb.

After a few days, even parsley roots frozen in the cold come to life and begin to actively release young leaves, and after a couple of weeks they turn into lush bushes. I water them regularly, once a month I feed them with complex fertilizer (I use liquid organomineral preparations according to the instructions) and constantly illuminate them with a table lamp.

Fragrant vitamin parsley in the cold season is a particularly valuable addition to a boring winter diet, devoid of fresh vegetables and fruits. I am also glad that our family now uses not store-bought greens stuffed with nitrates for food, but an environmentally friendly crop of home-made “production”.

In winter, I grow green onions on the windowsill, using a 5-tier planting. This planting allows you to save space and grow more vitamin greens.
To create such an oasis in a 5-liter plastic bottle, I cut off the top with a neck. In the bottom I pierce drainage holes for irrigation with a heated iron nail, and on the side, retreating from the bottom 5-6 cm, for the bulbs, which I have in tiers. I select the size of the holes a little smaller than the diameter of the bulbs, so that they peek out of the bottle only with the top.
Before planting, I soak the bulbs for 2-3 hours in water with the addition of 10 drops of aloe juice. At the bottom I pour drainage from expanded clay (1 cm), then to the first tier - the ground (I mix the soil for seedlings with garden soil 1: 1).
In each hole of the tier, I tightly lay the bulb with a slope so that the top looks out and the bottom is inside. At the same time I hold the bulb, and with the other hand I pour the earth. I compact a little, poly
vayu, correct if the bulb ran away from its place, and move on to the next tier. From above, I complete the planting with large and small bulbs over the entire surface of the soil.

I put the bottle on a pallet and put on a transparent plastic bag on top, which I remove when the first shoots appear.
In the future, I only water through the pan and periodically turn the container for more uniform lighting.

Vegetables and herbs that I grow on the windowsill in winter, I water in the morning with warm settled water.
I water plants in small pots once a day, because moisture evaporates faster in them.
I water the greens in large containers as the soil dries up. I make sure that the water does not stagnate, so I drain everything that flows into the pan from the drainage hole in half an hour.
I soften hard water with citric acid (1-1,5 g per 1 liter).
