The best varieties of apple trees for the Moscow region - photo + name + description and my reviews
APPLE TREES IN THE MOSCOW REGION. RESULTS 2021
The Belarusian winter variety Zorka showed itself very well. According to the description - a sort of delight. And I agree, apples are really beautiful, tasty, fragrant, very juicy, good balance between sugar and acid. Nothing sick, not affected by pests. Winter hardiness will still look, but it should be on top.
A few words about my favorite Oryol apple trees (VNIISPK selection, Orel).
Freshness apples are extraordinarily beautiful: shiny, even, with red stripes and strokes. But the taste for an amateur. I like apples, and the truth is "refreshing", but many of whom I treated did not really like them. The fruits are rather sour, the pulp is dense, juicy, crispy. But the variety is immune to scab and the fruits are well stored (late winter variety).
Kandil Orlovsky. Its fruits are of an original elongated shape (like all candillas), ribbed, yellowish with a blush. I don't really like the thick skin. But the pulp is beyond praise - dense, crispy, juicy, rich taste. During storage, the taste improves (at the beginning of autumn, apples are sour, but in winter they have a harmonious sweet and sour taste). Can be stored until February. The variety is immune to scab.
Family favorite - Christmas. Apples are beautiful, tasty and fragrant. The pulp is medium density, very juicy, crispy, excellent sweet and sour taste. So far I have kept it only until mid-November - they lie perfectly, retain all their qualities. I read reviews that if you store until Christmas, the fruits become softer and stop crunching. It is quite possible that this is the case. In my opinion, the most delicious Rozhdestvensky apples are in October, and already in November they become a little softer, but this still does not spoil the taste.
Another important point: do not delay harvesting, otherwise the fruits may
crumble. And you have to collect gradually - the ripening period is extended.
The variety Marat Busurin of the VSTISP selection (Moscow) has a lot of advantages. Autumn variety, I harvest in mid-September. The fruits can be eaten right away - the taste is excellent, dessert, sweet with a little acid, the wife determined the taste of a banana. If left to lie, then not for long, until the end of October. Then the taste deteriorates. The pulp is not very dense, juicy. The fruits are large (250-300 g), rounded, with a dark red blush, elegant. The variety is very winter-hardy (can be grown north of Moscow), resistant to scab.
I tried the southern variety Azimut, bred in the North Caucasian Federal Scientific Center for Horticulture, Viticulture and Winemaking. Scab immune variety, and it really is. Winter hardiness showed high in our conditions, I will look further. But the main thing is the fruits! They are beautiful, quite large, with dense, juicy, chipping flesh of excellent taste, sweet and sour, harmonious. Not a class, but a dream!
Tried the red meat variety Odisso. Of course, it is a big risk to grow it because of its not very high winter hardiness, but so far everything is in order. And the apples made me very happy! They are beautiful both outside and inside, medium density, juicy, very good sweet and sour taste. The flowers are pink, and at the time of flowering, this apple tree will look gorgeous.
Another variety with pink flesh is American Hidden Rose. For me, it ripens in early to mid-October. Outside, the apple is not very beautiful, greenish-brown, but on the cut there is a delicate pink flesh. The pulp is crispy, juicy, aromatic, sweet with astringency. I noticed that from year to year the taste is different, as is the color inside the apple - sometimes brighter, red, sometimes completely pale. Perhaps the point is in the temperature regime - in hot summers, apples work out better than cold and rainy ones. Still, in our climate, this variety is rather for experiment, for exotic. And to get really tasty apples, I would choose other varieties. And yet, to make apples tastier, I let them lie down. Tasted in November, then the taste gets better.
Canadian Mantet is a long-liver in my garden, has been growing for 10 years. During this time, there were also severe frosts in winter, up to minus 35 °, but there was no freezing of the tree. And in the summer there was a heat up to 35 °. When it does not last long, I do without watering. I water during long dry periods.
The fruits are very beautiful, with a bright red side, ripen in mid-second half of August. Fragrant, sweet taste. They should be removed in time, otherwise they fall off. They do not lie for a long time (summer variety), so we eat them or let them go for processing.
I am not affected by scab, but wasps damage the fruits, they are very tasty and sweet.

Williams Pride is my experiment. Variety from the USA. His apples are almost purple with a silvery wax coating, very unusual and beautiful. Summer variety, ripens in early-mid August. It doesn’t lie for a long time, but we eat it quickly, because apples are just a miracle. There is a lot of sweetness in the taste, little acidity (although the taste may vary depending on the season - hot or cold). The pulp is juicy, not hard, but not loose, fine-grained. The variety is early and fruitful, this is also a plus. Winter hardiness, according to observations, is good for 2 years, I will look further.
The Ukrainian variety Radogost impressed. I realized that it might not be very winter hardy. But for 5 years there were temperature drops in winter to minus 37 °, however, I did not observe freezing, as well as a decrease in fruiting in the same season. On the contrary, the harvest was plentiful. Apples are beautiful, red, sweet and sour harmonious taste, with chipping pulp. In a year when it was a particularly hot summer, the taste of apples became even better. And the fruits lie well. In a word, I really like this variety, I will grow it further.
I did not like Diyament at all (winter Belarusian variety). Apples are sour, as if unripe, not crunchy. Maybe he took it off the tree too early, but he was afraid that they would crumble. Although the description of the variety claims an amazing taste, I didn’t have it at all. Maybe I'll hold on for another year, see how it shows itself next time.
The gift to Grafsky did not take root for me - very quickly the fruits lost their hardness and juiciness, that is, in theory, it should be stored for a long time, the variety is late winter, but in reality the fruits lose their taste.
