Variety of RED-LEAVED peach Burgundy - my reviews and care tips
PURPLE PEACH - BURGUNDY VARIETY
When I first decided to plant peaches in my garden, I bought 2 seedlings of different varieties, and one of them won me over with its unusual burgundy-purple foliage. Red-leaved peach variety Burgundy showed high winter hardiness and became my favorite because of its decorative effect.
I spend the first dressing before flowering. Under each tree - 50 g of nitroammophoska and mineral complex fertilizer, and in mid-July I add 50 g of superphosphate and 25 g of potassium sulfate and urea.
When my peaches began to bear fruit, I increased the amount of fertilizer for digging to 150-200 g for each tree and added spraying of the crown with microelements. In addition, every 3-4 years I pamper the trees with compost or rotted manure, 1-2 buckets each.
I was simply amazed at how many flowers and fruits peaches form. On the one hand, it’s good, but on the other hand, a tree cannot withstand such a load for a long time, crops can come to naught and the winter hardiness of plants will decrease. Therefore, I cut out all the branches thinner than a pencil, at the end of summer I pinch strong shoots to stimulate the laying of new fruit buds in the next season.
It is known that the productivity of plants depends on the intensity of irrigation, and peaches especially need water procedures. Watering is required at least once every 2 weeks, in dry summers - daily. And if, with watering, you feed the trees 1 teaspoon per 1 bucket of water either with nitrophoska or with potassium sulfate, then the size of the fruits and their taste will please the gardener.
A couple of years ago, the spring was very rainy and my peaches got powdery mildew. Now, for prevention, every year after flowering, I spray the trees with Fundazol (10 g per 1 bucket of water). It is said that this capricious culture is susceptible to such a disease as leaf curl, followed by abscission of leaves and ovaries. Therefore, before flowering and after the leaves fall, I definitely process the fruit-bearing peaches with a 3% solution of Bordeaux mixture.
