Reproduction of currants by layering is the best way!

A SEA OF CURRANTS AND NO FUCKING WITH SHANKS!
Green cuttings, lignified cuttings, currant cuttings with a heel - I tried all the methods when propagating currants. And all the methods did not suit me - too troublesome.
The way out was suggested ... currant.
In general, we always put supports under these plants so that the branches do not lie on the ground. But one bush was left out. As a result, he fell apart, got tangled in the grass, and we gave up on him. And next year, the branches from the ground could not be lifted - they took root. Here is the ideal method of reproduction - layering! No fuss with cuttings! And at the same time, a 1% guarantee of rooting. Young 3-XNUMX-year-old branches from the bottom of the bush are suitable for work. In the spring, before bud break, I choose suitable shoots, bend them to the ground and fix them with a wire pin.
In early July, I dig a small groove under the branch, into which I pour fertile soil. I pour a good amount of water. On the side of the branch facing the ground, before each second bud, I make longitudinal cuts 2-3 cm long with a sharp knife.
I lay the branch in the groove, tightly fixing it with a hairpin, fill it with fertile soil and water it. The tip of the branch is on the surface. To water the plant less often, the rooting site can be overlaid with a thick layer of mulch.
At the end of April next year, I cut off the mother branch (I sprinkle the cuts with ash), and at the end of May I plant a seedling with a clod of earth in a permanent place.
CURRANT LAYERS - ADVICE AND FEEDBACK FROM GARDENERS AND PROFESSIONALS
TOPICAL: WE PROPAGATE CURRANT WITH LAYERS
I want to propagate my favorite blackcurrant bush. The neighbor says that it is better to do it with layering. What time to start?
Natalia Luzinova, Smolensk
- Currants are propagated by layering very soon - in early spring, as soon as the soil thaws. First, all weeds are removed around the bush, the soil is dug to a shallow depth, its top layer is loosened and watered. The next day, when the moisture is absorbed, grooves are radially dug around the bush a little more than 1 m long (according to the height of the shoots) and a few centimeters deep. Currant shoots are bent into them, pinned to the ground with wooden or metal staples. The branches are sprinkled with soil and watered again.
Soon, growths appear from the buds on the layering. In order for their roots to be powerful and well developed, young shoots, as soon as they grow to 30-40 cm, are spudded with moist fertile soil mixed with humus.
A strong root system quickly forms in this layer. In summer, mother bushes and shoots pinned to the ground are regularly watered and weeds are removed.
In the fall, the layers are carefully unraveled and separated from the mother plant. Then they are planted at an angle to a permanent place and cut off the aerial part, leaving 3-4 of the most developed buds, so that the plants begin to bush next year.

We breed the currant
August is the best time to plant woody cuttings of red and white currants. Do not delay this work: if blackcurrant cuttings can be easily rooted at almost any time, then white and red currants need more time and moisture to grow at least short roots by winter.
1 Dig the soil in advance on a shovel bayonet, add 10-12 kg of humus or compost and 150-200 g of wood ash per 1 sq.m.
2 Plant cuttings 15-20 cm long at an angle of 45 degrees, leaving 2-3 buds on the surface. The distance between plants is 5 cm. О Press each cutting tightly with earth О and water. Further water if necessary. For the winter, cuttings do not need to be covered.
