SHOWNAT PLANT: SORREL + SPINACH - HOW AND WHY TO GROW
Schavnat (Rumex K-1, Uteush spinach) many gardeners want to see on their site. The hybrid, obtained by crossing spinach sorrel (Rumexpatientia) and Tien Shan sorrel (Rumex tianschanius), has gained popularity due to its universal use. The plant has not only fodder (it was created for this purpose), but also food, medicinal and even energy value. Having inherited all the best from its "parents", shavnat is distinguished by high productivity and unpretentiousness in cultivation.
Interestingly, sorrel does not look like either sorrel or spinach. This perennial - tall plant has a long taproot (up to 2 m) and large leaves. The culture is resistant to drought and cold. Greens withstand frosts down to -5 ° C, and the root system - severe frosts (-25-30 ° C). The only condition is that the site should not be shaded.
Schavnat is an ultra-early plant, its sprouts are able to break through even through the snow. The hybrid grows very quickly, in terms of growth rate it is inferior only to bamboo. In early May, the plant reaches 1 m in height, and by the beginning of summer it is already two meters tall. During the season, you can get 2-3 cuttings.

As soon as stalking begins, the saffron is mowed for forage, it can also be ensiled. The green mass of shavnata is rich in protein, sugar and vitamins. The dry matter obtained from savnate during the stemming period contains 39% protein, while corn grain - 81, wheat - 10%. Feeding shavnat to cows, goats and sheep increases their milk yield by 2-14%, milk fat content - by 7-10%. Piglets, calves, rabbits, nutrias, poultry, whose diet includes savnut, increase daily weight gain by 12-4 times.
The hybrid has proven itself well as a vegetable crop. Its greens can be obtained much earlier than the harvest of other early spring plants. The young leaves of chavnat are saturated with vitamins and have a pleasant taste, without excess acid and bitterness. Borscht, soups, salads, main dishes are prepared from them. Shchavnat is edible before the start of stalking. The greens of the plant can be dried and then used in winter.
Shchavnat is known for its medicinal properties. Bioadditives made on its basis are recommended for anemia, lack of vitamins A and C, chemical poisoning, atherosclerosis and other diseases.
Culture was appreciated abroad. So, in the EU countries, shavenat is used as an energy plant.
The plant is fairly easy to grow. In early spring, the seeds are sown in moist soil to a depth of 1,5-2,0 cm. The distance between the seeds is 6-8 cm, the row spacing is 45-70 cm.
Shoots appear on the 5-6th day. In the first year of life, the plant forms a powerful rosette of leaves 35-50 cm long. From the second year, 3-6 generative shoots develop simultaneously with the melting of snow. If you break off the flower stalks, the hybrid can grow up to 15 years in one place. Care consists in loosening the soil and removing weeds. But I don’t take much care of him: schavnat sprouts itself, suppresses most of the weeds and winters well. You just need to take care of the sowing.
Thanks to its useful properties and unique characteristics, shavenat can be a good help in any household.
