DO PEPPER SEEDLINGS NEED LIGHT?

It seems to me that growing sweet peppers is much easier than growing tomatoes. I planted many varieties, but settled on three: Swallow and Gift of Moldova - for open ground, but in the greenhouse I plant tall, large-fruited, yellow, up to 1,5 m high. It was given to me by my daughter Natalia, and she was given a friend from the Ivanovo region, so I don't know the name. The variety is thick-walled, sweet, juicy. Very good for preparations.

I plant peppers in mid-February with dry seeds, I have my own. Since autumn, I have been adding humus, sand and ash to the soil: for two buckets of earth, a bucket of humus and sand, a half-liter jar of ash. When two real leaves appear, I dive into glasses of 0,5 liters each, and tall ones into mayonnaise buckets with a capacity of 1 liter.

Before planting, I always water the earth with a weak solution of manganese. I put the seedlings in my room on the table under the backlight and water as the soil dries up.

This year there was not enough space on the table, as my daughter is unable to grow good seedlings and she asked me to plant them for her. So I decided to put a tall pepper for the greenhouse right away on the windowsills. Double frames, not cold.

Immediately after planting, I put buckets with seedlings in transparent plastic bags, twisting them on top so that the cold air from the glass does not harm.

On April 20, I take the peppers to the greenhouse for hardening. At first not for long, but gradually increase the time of stay. Before landing, I leave it for four or five days, however, just in case, I cover it. I plant in the first decade of May, somewhere around the seventh or eighth, but also under spunbond. It's in a greenhouse. And on the street I make a warm bed, put the arcs after planting, cover with spunbond No. 60 and a film.

I arrange the bed in a sunny place. Pepper loves top dressing very much: the better you feed, the more it grows the crown and yields. Every week I spray with microelements (boron is always present in the composition). I water with magnesium sulfate every 10 days plus an infusion of chicken manure, diluted 1:20. When planting, I add complex fertilizer to the ground.

My harvest is always good. Already in June, I cook stuffed peppers for my family. I shoot three or four harvests from open ground, however, in the phase of technical ripeness, but in the greenhouse I wait until it ripens.

I want to pay attention to the seedlings: the one that stood without illumination on the windowsills is stronger, and its foliage is dark green, while the one that grew in the greenhouse with illumination is light green.

The conclusion suggests itself: pepper can be grown without additional lighting.

Yes, I forgot to write that for the purpose of prevention, two weeks after planting, I spray the bushes with drugs for diseases, and this can be seen in the picture (on the leaves). But I never spray bushes with fruits! My peppers don't get sick. That's it.
