HIGH-GROWN TOMATOES IN THE VOLGOGRAD REGION - PLANTING AND CARE, COMMENTS ON VARIETIES

With so many varieties of tomatoes on the market, it's hard to resist experimenting! The author of the article remains faithful to tall tomatoes, but at the same time does not forget to take care of the diversity of this multi-species crop in her area.

I want to contribute to the "tomato" topic. I have been preparing beds for planting since autumn: I scatter chicken and cow manure for digging. From mid-March, I begin to engage in seedlings in the apartment. Each variety is in its own pot. I put the seeds on the ground and then mix them with a stick so that they are not visible, sometimes I sprinkle a little earth on top. I carefully water, then I put the containers in a warm place, cover them with polyethylene and practically do not disturb them for about two weeks. When the first loops appear, I lay the insulation on the windowsill, located on the sunny side, and transfer the pots there.

I do not dive seedlings. If it has outgrown by the time of landing on the site, I plant it lying down, leaving only the tops: in this way, additional roots are formed in the tomatoes and the yield increases. I plant two roots every 20 cm. Say, thickly? Nothing - where it is dense, it is not empty.

Tomatoes never stepchild: fluffing up, they shade the fruits, retaining moisture. I pinch the tops only in plants that have reached 1 m in height.

I shade the planted seedlings only from the sunny side on the arcs so that it hurts less.

Instead of spunbond, I use cotton fabrics: gauze, tulle or old sheets. I also mulch plantings with sunflower husks. I loosen as often as possible: about a week after each watering. I fertilize mainly with fermented grass with manure 7-10 days after planting, but I try to avoid mineral fertilizers.

When the tomatoes bloom and the ovary appears, I fertilize the leaves with whey, which I buy on the market, with the addition of iodine. If it is fresh, then I do not dilute it with water, and if it is sour, I dilute it 1: 2. For 1 liters of liquid, there are 5-7 drops of iodine.

Basically, I plant tall tomatoes: I think they are the most delicious. I like large ones, but I don’t refuse medium and small ones either. I got an amazing harvest last year!

I like to experiment, I constantly buy new seeds, because it's hard to resist - there are so many varieties! Recently, on the advice of dachas, I bought several. The hut is rich - undersized tomatoes, medium, fruitful, tasty. Batyanya - Siberian selection, tall, up to 2 m, heart-shaped with a spout, an analogue of the Bull's heart. I also want to buy seeds of the Karapuz and Lazybones varieties, but they are not on sale: they have been sorted out.

Now I want to talk about the varieties already tested, with which I was very pleased.

First-grader - an early variety, medium height, very productive, large, pink, sweet. I've been planting it for two years, I'm not overjoyed! I collect the seeds myself. In photo 1 with these tomatoes, daughter-in-law Masha and me.

Puzata Khata - tall, large and tasty fruits, as if sprinkled with sugar! Planted for the first time, also on the advice of summer residents. We, as young people say, were dragged along with them so much that I even forgot to take a picture. Inside, they are not sinewy and not empty, on the contrary, they are fleshy. So the variety is early, but in my case, fruiting began in mid-August and continued until frost.

For the first time, on the advice of a seed seller, she planted Lyubasha - an early hybrid, undersized, sweet, medium-sized fruits. In photo 2, I am with a bucket of these tomatoes in the thickets of Sorokadnevka potatoes: it blooms painfully beautiful.

I also planted De Barao and Ripe Cherries - they are tall, very strong and tasty, they are mainly used for harvesting and salad. In the photo 3 Polbig tomatoes.

Of course, you cannot describe all the varieties growing on the site: there is not enough space. There is a lot of trouble with tall people: you need to drive the stakes in and tie them up several times. But I love them, so this work is not a burden for me, but a joy!

And finally, I will share a simple recipe for harvesting tomatoes in a cold way - they turn out so tasty that even the whole brine is drunk! Try it, I'm sure you'll like it. We have treated no one, everyone was satisfied and asked to share the recipe.

COLD PREPARATIONS - ON A NOTE.

At the bottom of a 3-liter jar we put a dill umbrella and five

sprigs of parsley, put large tomatoes up to half the jar, fill empty spaces with small ones.

In the middle of the jar, pour 1 tbsp. l. (with a slide) salt and 2 tbsp. l. Sahara. We put garlic cloves from four heads, add blackcurrant leaves, 6-8 peas of allspice, a slice of bell pepper, 3-4 bay leaves and fill the jar with tomatoes to the top.

Fill with cold water from: a tap or from a well, add 1 tsp. vinegar essence and 3 aspirin tablets.

We close it with a screw or nylon lid and put it in a cold place - a refrigerator or a cellar. We have such blanks sometimes for two years (photo 4).

In winter, we just eat and cook this dish. We clean the tomatoes, knead, add pickled mushrooms (3 l per 0,7-liter jar) and 4 crushed garlic cloves. Ready! It can be served both as a second course and as an appetizer at the festive table.
