5 Tricks for a Super Raspberry Harvest
In July, when summer raspberries ripen, it's not too late to "conjure" on your plantation to get a super harvest.
5 simple but very important agricultural practices will help you with this.
IRRING WATERING
In a dry summer, raspberry shoots and set berries dry up without watering. The root system of even an adult bush can die from drying out, because it is superficial, lies at a depth of 10-30 cm. Therefore, the soil must be moist: at least 1 liters of water will be required for 30 linear meter of planting. In order for this volume to have time to completely soak into the ground to the depth desired by the roots, and not spread over the site, water in the morning or evening for 2-3 doses. The ripening period of raspberries is extended in time, so after a week and a half, watering can be repeated.
Top dressing. Now plants primarily need potassium, then phosphorus (nitrogen is needed to a lesser extent during the fruiting period). Foliar top dressing (by leaves) is optimal with mineral fertilizers with macro- and microelements, for example, Kristalon Special or Kristalon Brown (according to instructions), 2 times with an interval of 10-14 days. Just potash fertilizer is also suitable - potassium sulfate or an infusion of stove ash (fill a bucket a third with ash, pour hot water to the brim, leave for two days, then strain and water under the root).
MULCHING RASPBERRY
Raspberry roots in hot weather quickly overheat and dry out, which immediately affects the crop. Mulching with a layer of 10-15 cm with mature compost, peat (moisten well before use), rotted sawdust, flax, coniferous tree chips will help to avoid the problem.
WEEDING AND CUTTING.
Weeds take water, nutrients from raspberries, and also serve as a refuge for pests, and can carry diseases. Weed the raspberries.
It is necessary to normalize the number of shoots. When growing raspberries with a bush, remove all shoots, leaving 10-12 fruiting shoots of the current year.
PROTECTIVE TREATMENTS OF RASPBERRY
In the middle of summer, gray rot can pretty much spoil the crop. But the use of aggressive "chemistry" at this time is unacceptable. Agricultural practices (thinning, tying to a trellis) and biological preparations - Gamair, Fitosporin, Frutin, Alirin-B will help. The main pest on raspberries is the raspberry beetle. Biological preparations (Bitoxibacillin, Fitoverm, Aktofit) can save from it in the first half of July. Just follow the instructions strictly!
