THERE ARE NO EXPIRED SEEDS?

Expired seeds are sold very cheaply. And what? Only cabbage may not sprout, but cucumbers, tomatoes, melons, zucchini and, in general, everything with large seeds will sprout very well! Only they will have to “feed” better when soaking.

My seeds germinate and are 10 years old, so do not rush to throw away expired seeds, first check them for germination - this is not so difficult, and there is always time before garden work begins.

For example, pepper seeds germinate very poorly, even if they are not expired, so now I take them directly from fresh peppers bought in the supermarket, and the harvest is excellent!

I process them with aloe juice with honey, then put them on germination (required!) Between cotton pads. I also germinate the seeds of eggplants, tomatoes, watermelons, melons, peas without fail: I put large seeds in a rag and in a bag - and in heat.

After two or three days, I begin to look into the bag: if I peck, I plant them in a peat tablet, put them in a small container so that they enter the bag, exhale several times (they love carbon dioxide), tightly tie the bag and put it on kitchen hanging cabinets - there warm, and already on the fifth day, or even earlier, they sprout.

It is advisable not to miss the moment of pulling out the loop - every day you need to open the bag, ventilate it a little (10-15 minutes), again exhale into the bag three or four times, tie it up and put it on the cabinet. And so every day.

In addition, you need to monitor the moisture content of the tablets, and if anything, pour some water into the pan (preferably with potassium permanganate). As soon as the loops appear, remove the bag and put the seedlings under the lamp or on the south window.

I only have eastern, western and northern ones, so I bought a backlight: my daughter bought two long lamps, and my son assembled them on a wooden rail along the window width of 110 cm. Her light is pink, and so as not to hit in the eyes, I am on one side I stick a strip of newspaper with tape, otherwise in the first days I noticed that it began to burn in my eyes.

So I thought: these lamps are harmful to the eyes, and I covered the light with a strip 10 cm wide, bent it down, and now it doesn’t shine in my eyes, otherwise the table at which we eat is by the window. And the lamp sometimes burns all day if it is cloudy. I turn it on at 7 am, turn it off at 8-9 pm. If the sun peeps through, then I turn it off during the day.

INCREASING SEED GENERATION - ADVICE AND FEEDBACK

IS IT REAL TO INCREASE SEED GENERATION?

Everyone is trying to increase the germination of seeds, using a variety of methods for this. For example, they are treated with various stimulants, soaked in vodka and water, say, in the one in which the eggs were previously boiled, but this often helps little.

The most important thing is to pay attention to the expiration dates of seeds, and their price too, without trying to buy them at the lowest price. Often the cheapest seeds do not have good germination, and it is simply impossible to “wake them up”.

To compile your black list, we advise you to keep a notebook: if you bought low-quality seeds, write down the manufacturer and do not buy seed material from him anymore.

In general, it is always better to collect your own seeds. Of course, this requires not hybrids, but varieties, and these very seeds should, of course, be stored correctly, observing both storage conditions and terms. You can always cheer up your seeds using any growth stimulants.

But do not think that this is a magical tool that can "resurrect the dead." If under the shell, inside, the rudiments of sprouts have already died, then no stimulants will help these seeds. If the rudiments of sprouts are already “on the verge”, then stimulants can not only be used here, but also necessary, otherwise the seedlings will be unfriendly and sparse.

So our advice to you is: grow varieties and collect your seeds. For example, having grown a good variety of tomatoes once, you can stock up on seeds for five seasons without fear that the variety will degenerate, because pollination in a tomato occurs even in the bud.

For other crops, you can do the same thing - collect your collection of the best varieties and grow them, then you won’t have to stimulate the seeds.
