Strawberries in trenches - reviews on the method of cultivation
HOW WE GROW STRAWBERRY IN GROOVES - MY FEEDBACK
With the advent of global warming, gardeners and gardeners also have to adapt, look for new ways to grow plants to help them maximize their productivity in a changing climate.
If earlier we grew garden strawberries on bulk ridges, then for the last five years my husband and I decided that it was more rational to do the opposite: we break through the grooves on the site and plant strawberries in them, and the paths go along the mounds. We cover the paths
black spunbond, folded in half for strength, sprinkle its edges with earth so that it does not blow away with the wind. We pour compost into the grooves, plant seedlings, water and mulch with needles. So the moisture, which has been in short supply in recent years, is preserved, and the berries are always clean, regardless of the weather. Nice to collect these. Watering the ditches is also very convenient, especially in summer, when the heat can last until late in the evening.
I put the hose on the edge of the groove and you can do something else for about ten minutes, the water will not flow out of the groove anywhere. Even if the strawberry grows strongly and fills the trench, it still has enough light, since the paths covered with spunbond do not overgrow with weeds. This makes the job very easy. And walking on such paths is convenient. There is only one drawback - cats also like spunbond, they like to sharpen their claws on it, which does a little harm.
We grew strawberries in trenches for four years, and then laid a new plantation of trench beds, covering the paths with an old but intact spunbond.
There are some advantages to a hot summer - you can cook homemade dried fruits. And for this you will not need any special devices. Fruits and berries dry out very quickly in the sun.
We make a dryer out of old window frames and install it in the garden in a sunny place.
In such a dryer, we fit 10 buckets of chopped apples or other fruits. The year before last, we dried apricots, and last year we did not produce apricots, but there was a good harvest of pears and apples. White filling. We dried them enough. In winter, having your own dried fruits, you can spend less on fresh vitamins. For us pensioners, this is a great help.
