Growing arugula in Primorsky Krai - my advice
HOW TO GROW ARUKOLA IN PRIMORYE - LANDING AND CARE
It is not at all difficult to grow arugula on your site. Try it and you will immediately fall in love with this spicy plant! By the way, not only savory, but also very healthy. The whole world has long been convinced of this.
They often write about her: "Taste for an amateur." Indeed, it is somewhat reminiscent of a young radish - at first sweetish, then with a slight bitterness. As they say, a mixture of mustard and cheese. I don't eat mustard, but I love arugula. And anyone who tries it immediately falls in love with this piquant plant. Arugula is especially good with meat dishes, as well as salads.
Seeds and leaves of arugula contain mustard oil, vitamins A, C, group B and, in addition, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iodine, iron. It is rich in fiber, normalizes metabolism, increases the level of hemoglobin in the blood, and is an excellent tonic. Useful for stomach ulcers.
This spicy herb comes from Italy. I once had a chance to read such a statement: "Like a true southerner, arugula does not tolerate frost." Yes, you need to be smart about growing arugula. The first time I sow it in a small greenhouse with radishes and lettuce is around mid-April. When the plants bloom, I leave a few for seeds, the rest I remove. Then I sow along the edge of the garden with tomatoes or asparagus beans - this is already in June and August. The main thing is that the place is sunny, and the earth is loose and fertilized.
I sow in one row and not densely. If somewhere it turned out thick, I sit in a checkerboard pattern. Arugula easily tolerates transplantation.
After 5-6 days, the first shoots appear. I water when the soil dries out. When rosettes of leaves are formed, I cut off the extreme leaves. A few days later, the bush is again covered in leaves.
All summer and autumn I supply my relatives, neighbors, girlfriends with arugula. My sister has a dacha outside the city, there is more sun, the land is richer, and everything seems to be growing better than mine. But the arugula does not want to. She needs light soil, and the water should not stagnate.
Having removed the tops of early tomatoes, I loosened and fed the garden bed. Autumn was warm, it was the second half of September. I decided at random to sow arugula on this bed. She rose well, but grew more slowly than in summer. Two weeks later she covered with lutrasil, because the night temperatures dropped to 10 ° and below. By the end of October, frosts were observed on the soil surface, and on November 2 it snowed with rain. On the 9th, my daughter and granddaughter and I went to the dacha to cover strawberries and raspberries and bury grapes. Removing the shelter from the garden, I did not hope that something had survived there. But our southerner survived!
I washed all the greens well right from the roots and stored them in containers in the refrigerator. For a long time they ate themselves, treated relatives and friends. And once we celebrated my sister's birthday in a restaurant and ordered a salad. Many things were indicated in its composition, including arugula. But when ordering, the waiter immediately warned: there would be no arugula - they say, there are no deliveries from Italy. Just think, from Italy! And I just brought my sister my next harvest!
We added my arugula to the salad and ate heartily. They even laughed: how lucky it was that I took her with me.
I strongly recommend to all readers: sow arugula! I assure you, you too will immediately fall in love with this wonderful plant. Good luck and good harvests!

Arugula greens can be served at the table 3-3,5 weeks after sowing. Really, is it good? Then attention!
Lighting: in the morning - diffused light, in the afternoon - partial shade. That is, not in the bright sun and not in the shade.
The soil is desirable fertile, not very dry, slightly alkaline or neutral.
Water regularly to keep the soil slightly moist at all times. In drought and heat - daily.
Mustard oil is responsible for the sharpness of the leaves. The longer the arugula grows, the more bitter it is. Harvest on time.
