Why fruit trees don't shed their leaves in autumn
IF TREES DO NOT SHUT LEAVES - CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES
Outside the window is November, the nights are very cold, but a number of trees have not yet shed their leaf blades. Why this happens and whether it is dangerous for trees, let's figure it out today.
If we take a closer look at the plants, we can see that in those located in an open and well-lit area, the foliage, as a rule, lasts much longer than in trees located, albeit in a rare and short-term, but shade.
In addition, it can be seen that the more thermophilic the plant, the longer it does not shed leaf blades, for example, quince or sweet cherry.
It happens that the gardener himself is to blame for the fact that the foliage does not fall for a long time, for example, when water-charging irrigation was carried out early or for some reason the trees were fed with nitrogen fertilizers in the fall. In this case, the fact that the plants did not shed their leaves is a bad sign: most likely, the shoots have grown a little from the introduction of nitrogen and these parts of the shoots will definitely freeze in winter.
If you add nitrogen in the fall, then the flower buds may even slightly activate, this “slightly” may be enough for them to fatally suffer from frost in winter.
Let's consider other reasons. For example, quite often gardeners plant a variety that is not suitable for their conditions. Such varieties are called "non-zoned", that is, not approved for use in this region, for example, due to reduced winter hardiness.
When buying a particular variety, you need to make sure in the State Register that the variety is zoned in your country, approved for cultivation, there is no risk of its cultivation, and only after that it will be possible to buy it.
Another factor that affects the lack of leaf fall in trees in the garden is too much summer pruning. Such pruning is generally controversial and almost always stimulates plants to actively grow and restore shoots, therefore the growing season itself is delayed, there will be leaf fall later and, worst of all, there will be lignification of shoots later, which means they can easily freeze in winter.
Well, the final reason that the leaf blades don’t want to fall off in any way is the “strange” autumn weather. For example, if autumn is not much different from summer - it is warm and there is enough moisture, then plants may well “keep” foliage for a long period. In this case, you should not be afraid, usually after the first serious November frost, the foliage falls like a pretty one. Even in the evening, the tree can stand in foliage, and in the morning it will have only a couple of leaves.
In general, having noticed a tree with leaves in the garden in November, remember all the reasons, try to find out how possible they are, and based on them you will understand whether it is worth worrying about the tree or everything is in order.

The leaves are falling slowly this year. Apple and plum trees are still half green. How will this affect the wintering of trees and the future harvest? And why do they fall so late? Does anything need to be done?

Dear Andrey Alexandrovich! Yes, this year it’s the same picture everywhere, and in my garden too. But this is not scary, because the plants did not produce new growth, and the longer photosynthesis lasted, the more sugar the tree roots stored, which means they will winter better.
