CABBAGE: WHICH HYBRID IS HOW MUCH - NAME AND DESCRIPTION OF VARIETIES
What kind of vegetables do we eat with appetite not only in season, but all year round? Cabbage, our third bread! Nothing without her! Belokochanka in Russia is almost a national treasure, it is grown from the Far North to the southern borders of the country. It is very different, and therefore it is important to know what is best to choose for storage.
For each of the 12 regions of the Russian Federation, varieties and hybrids of white cabbage have been bred, adapted to certain natural conditions, in order to always give stable yields. So it makes sense to sow not any cabbage, but a certain one - for your climatic zone and specific purposes. There is a direct relationship between ripening and storage.
IRREGULAR CABBAGE VARIETIES
Ultra-early and early varieties of cabbage are grown for a quick harvest that can be eaten fresh for salads, as well as delicious cabbage soup. It is not suitable for pickling and salting. It takes 40-50 and 60-65 days from planting seedlings to technical ripeness of heads, respectively.
This cabbage has a small rosette, leaves without a pronounced wax coating, a medium-sized head of cabbage with a thin covering leaf, juicy white pulp of a delicate texture.
Classic varieties - June 3200, Number One Gribovsky 147, Golden Hectare, they are already 80 years old and more, but they do not lose popularity among amateur vegetable growers. There are newer ones, these are domestic hybrids F1 Explosion, Aurora, Dumas.
F1 Transfer is one of the most unpretentious early hybrids with good taste and immunity. Not afraid of low temperatures, does not crack. Heads are rounded, weighing up to 1,5 kg, completely white in cross-section, with a very short stump. The density is average, as there are voids. Heads of cabbage ripen together. Shelf life - 30-40 days.
NEW YEAR VARIETIES OF CABBAGE
All mid-ripening varieties of cabbage are good for fresh consumption: 85-100 days pass from planting seedlings to harvesting heads. But still, they are mostly processed - fermentation, pickling, drying.
The plants have a powerful spreading leaf rosette, which allows you to grow a large head of cabbage weighing from 2,8 kg. The pulp on the cut is white, tender.
Widespread varieties: Slava 1305, Belorusskaya 455. One of the record holders in productivity is the Moskovskaya late 15 variety. Subject to the cultivation technology and under favorable weather conditions (moderate summer with close to normal rainfall and without sudden temperature changes), plants form a head of cabbage weighing 8 -10 kg and more. The upper leaves surround it almost converging, so when shredded, long openwork chips are obtained, which are ideal for preparing delicacies. It is this variety that is in particular demand not only among amateur gardeners, but also among processors.
However, the hybrids F1 SB-3, Yubileinaya Semko, quite a bit inferior to the varieties in taste, are distinguished by their unpretentiousness, stable productivity and evenness.
Fresh, they all lie without loss from harvesting until December, about 2,5 months.
AUTUMN VARIETIES OF CABBAGE
There are several varieties and hybrids of white cabbage, which, in terms of ripening, occupy an intermediate position between early and medium, - medium early. The varieties and hybrids of this ripeness group are most in demand in the northern regions of our country - Karelia, the Komi Republic, the Perm Territory, etc. This is Stakhanovka 1513, hybrids F, Zarnitsa, Sprinter. They are grown both for eating fresh and for pickling.
F1 Kazachok is a hybrid popular with gardeners, tasty, with light round heads. In 50 days after planting the seedlings, they reach a weight of 1-1,5 kg. Cabbage is not damaged by mucous bacteriosis, black leg, moderately resistant to fusarium and keel. Suitable for different soils.
Such varieties lie in cool rooms without loss of quality for about 3 months.
Cabbage heads are best kept in a basement or cellar at a constant air temperature of about 1 ° and high humidity. It is desirable that they be stored without damage. When stored in unsuitable premises, each head is wrapped with craft paper and the condition is periodically checked.
MIDDLE AND LATE-MAPING CABBAGE VARIETIES
There is a large group of medium-late and late-ripening varieties of cabbage: from planting seedlings to harvesting heads, you need to wait more than 100 days. This group is represented mainly by F1 hybrids of domestic selection. These are Valentine, Prestige, Dream, Duchess, Snowflake. Not bad and foreigners F1 Storema, Flexima, Ankoma. Old varieties are still in demand - Zimovka 1474, Amater 611, Gift.
F1 Severyanka is a promising domestic novelty in the line of super-yielding hybrids. Plants are adapted to the climate in areas of risky farming, do not crack. Not afraid of frost, stress-resistant. The average weight of delicious, without bitterness and sharpness of heads of cabbage is 2,5-3 kg. High level of sugars in leaves and stalk.
Cabbage of this ripening period is most often sour, but in winter, salads are chopped from fresh heads of cabbage.
Heads of late cabbage are stored for more than 4-5 months, medium-late, respectively, a little less.
VARIETIES OF TWO-HANDED
Late-ripening varieties and hybrids are very popular with vegetable growers, which can be fermented immediately, as soon as they are removed from the garden. All the rest are best kept in storage for at least 2 weeks. The maturation period (from germination to technical ripeness) is 135-140 days. The main feature is that they can be stored for a long time without significant changes in the biochemical composition and then they are suitable both for processing - pickling and pickling, and for fresh salads. Such varieties are called "two-handled".
A remarkable representative of this group is the domestic variety of the new generation Parus. It has a round head of medium size, weighing 3-3,5 kg, dense, white on the cut. Outer and inner stumps of medium length. The taste is excellent, with an optimal ratio of sugars and organic acids. The high content of dry matter (9,4%) determines the high calorie content. Another advantage of the variety is the possibility of growing both seedlings and seedlings. It is equally good for fresh use, pickling and storage.
The keeping quality of this cabbage is excellent - after six months in storage, 75-85% of heads of cabbage do not lose quality.
