TOMATOES GREEN, EVEN RIPE
Such tomatoes with an atypical color are distinguished by a high content of sugars and a small amount of organic acids. They taste more like fruits and berries than vegetables.
A teacher at a gardening course recommended planting a tomato of the domestic Boloto variety. She assured us that we would not fail. It is interesting in that the ripe fruits are saturated with chlorophyll and therefore have a marsh-green color. Maybe this will seem over the top to some, but I wanted to try. And indeed - did not lose
Since then, I have become fascinated with testing such tomatoes. And apparently, not only I give them their due - new items appear every year.
Without exception, all modern green-fruited varieties and hybrids are rich in sugars, so they are more reminiscent of exotic fruits. Even the originators give them names “fruity” - Green grapes, Kiwi, Emerald pear, Green apple.
As for agricultural technology, it is no different from the cultivation of red, pink, yellow varieties and hybrids of tomatoes familiar to all of us.
GREEN TOMATO VARIETIES
The swamp, my first-born and therefore a favorite, turned out to be a tall (more than 1 m) variety. It is early ripe - from seed germination to harvest, you need to wait about 5 months, and unpretentious - it can grow both in open ground and in greenhouses, but it requires mandatory tying of shoots to strong supports. At the time of planting the seedlings in the ground, I did not have suitable pegs, so I planted tomatoes in the rose garden. Formed plants in one stem. They got a lot of sun and fertilizer among the roses, which they did not interfere with at all.
When grown in greenhouses, according to the recommendation, no more than two bushes per 1 square meter should be planted. m. Ripe tomatoes are large, on average 300 g each, and the first fruits grow 400 g and even more. They are fleshy and juicy, but with a thin skin, so they are not stored for a long time and do not tolerate transportation. We enjoyed eating them fresh, like sweet apples, as well as in summer salads and appetizers. The mix looks beautiful in a salad of red, yellow, orange and green tomatoes. However, if the sun and heat are not enough, the taste goes into acid.
I was very impressed with the Green Sugar variety. A bush up to 1 m high. From the emergence of seedlings to the collection of the first fruits, 5 months pass, fruiting is long. Can be grown under the sky or in a greenhouse. Ripe tomatoes are round, slightly flattened, slightly ribbed, with a yellowish-green skin. Fruit weight from 4 g to 200 g. The taste justifies its name - very sweet, without sourness.
An interesting foreign variety is Chile green (Chile Verde), a bush 1 m high and more. It must be grown on a trellis. The variety is mid-season - from the emergence of shoots to the collection of fruits for about 7 months. Tomatoes are oblong, with a sharp tip, medium-sized - weighing about 4 g. The color of the skin is green with a yellowish tint. They taste like dessert.
I like the Green Apple variety. He has a low bush - up to 70 cm. Sometimes you can even not tie up the plants and remove the stepchildren, you will still have a good harvest.
No worse than the mid-season variety Emerald pear with unlimited growth, the central shoot reaches 2 m in height. I traditionally form the Emerald Pear on a trellis in two stems. The fruits, of course, are pear-shaped, weighing up to 160 g. You can determine when they ripen by the darkened color of the skin and softness. Ripe tomatoes are very juicy with a sweetish fruity taste and can be stored in a cool place for up to two weeks. One of the advantages is high disease resistance.
Two more varieties are good - Kiwi and Siberian kiwi. They got such names due to the original taste, reminiscent of these tropical fruits, and even when cut, the fruits really resemble kiwi.
In the greenhouse, the height of the Kiwi bush reaches 1 m, in the open field - no more than 5 m. It is recommended to form plants in 1-2 stems. Fruits weighing up to 3 g, rounded, slightly flattened, skin color is green with a yellowish tint. In Siberia, and even in the open field, Kiwi obviously will not grow. But there is a variety of Siberian kiwi - not so large, but decorative, tasty and fruitful.
The most, in my opinion, the sweetest and most unusual variety of cherry tomato Green Grape (Green Grape) of American selection. He has complex brushes, each with 6-15 tomatoes. Ripe fruits weighing about 25 g, oblong, up to 3 cm in diameter, with pointed tips, like grapes Lady's fingers.
Skin with a golden hue. The pulp is juicy, sweet, green - berries!
Grape bushes up to 1 m high, it is recommended to grow them in a greenhouse, lead in two stems with a garter to a trellis. The variety loves the sun and moderate moisture, has a long yield. It takes 2-150 days from germination to the start of harvest. In our suburbs, "grapes" work well in a greenhouse, in the south it will feel great in the open field. The variety is resistant to many diseases.

VARIETIES F1 IRISH LIQUOR AND ABSINTH
Once, in a seed shop, I was very interested in a green tomato hybrid with the delicious name F1 Irish Liqueur. And he did not disappoint, albeit capricious. Fruits weighing up to 250 g, ripe green skin with a yellowish sheen and fleshy sweet pulp. The ripening period is medium early. The hybrid is intended only for cultivation in a greenhouse.
Deciding to replenish the collection of "drinks in the garden", I ordered the American variety Absinthe on the Internet. Ripe tomatoes weighing 350-400 g, green with a yellowish sheen, are suitable for whole-fruit canning. Juicy pulp has a pleasant fruity flavor.

GARDEN JEWELRY
Among the popular domestic varieties, the Malachite Box is indeterminate, up to 1 m in height. From seed germination to harvest ripening is at least 5 months. The malachite box grows successfully both in the greenhouse and in the open field with a garter to strong supports or a trellis.
If you keep the bushes in 1 - 2 stems, the yield will be higher. The variety is particularly large-fruited, individual fleshy tomatoes weighing up to 900 g.
Emerald color with yellow highlights. In order for the yield to be consistently high, it is required to observe the irrigation regime and feed the plants with mineral fertilizers once a week.
The taste of ripe tomatoes Malachite box is a bit like melon. They are good to use for salads, appetizers, sauces, as well as preparations.
Another "jewel" in the garden is the Emerald standard tomato with compact bushes only half a meter high. They do not need shaping and pinching. The fruits are amazingly tasty, fragrant, bright with a dark spot at the stem, with an increased proportion of vitamins and trace elements. The variety is resistant to diseases and pests.
A tall hybrid F, an emerald gem settled not only in my country house, but also in
I visited several friends and neighbors. At first they were perplexed, watching me collect green "cream", believing that I would finish them at home in Moscow. And when they tried the delicious greenfinch, they immediately wanted to plant such a hybrid at home.
Emerald gem - with unlimited growth, height 2 m or more. Stems need pinching and tying to supports. But it is early (from germination to harvest only 100 days). Up to 16 fruits of 30-40 g each ripen in each brush. They are plum-shaped with spouts, juicy, sweet, with a slight sourness. The hybrid is resistant to diseases, sets fruits even under adverse conditions, and can also grow in open ground. But my seeds did not germinate well, and the seedlings developed slowly, while other tomatoes grew as if nothing had happened.
There are no green diamonds among minerals, but among tomatoes - please! I purchased Belgian seeds of the Green Diamond variety and was pleasantly surprised. It grows as a strong bush in 1-3 stems. Ripe fruits are round, heart-shaped, weighing 150-250 g, they are distinguished by a rich sweet-spicy taste. The skin is dense, dark green with a brown blush, and inside the tomato is like dark green marmalade.
It is worth trying only one variety of green-fruited tomatoes - and it is already impossible to stop looking for new ones. They are not only very tasty and fragrant, but also useful for those who are allergic to red tomatoes, especially children with their diathesis. In a word, green tomatoes are jewels in our beds. And it is a pity that they are so rarely found in the courtyards.
I have three new green varieties in line for testing: Green Honey, Green Sausage and Green Zebra.
