GROWING VEGETABLES USING ORGANIC FARMING TECHNOLOGY AND REPLACING FERTILIZERS
It is difficult to overestimate the importance of this letter. Not everyone will like it, but it's a pity: if everyone adhered to the views of the author, paradise would probably reign in our gardens and orchards.
A few years ago I wanted to touch on this topic, besides, there was a reason. And here it is raised in the 14th issue of last year. The editor asked to continue the conversation - well, let's continue. I also believe that the main thing is the quality of the grown crop, and not its quantity. And I completely agree with the opinion that many grannies sell vegetables in the market, stuffed to the bone with nitrates! But let's figure it out: what do we have, better, or what? Here I want to tell you one story, in my opinion, very instructive.
COUNTRY CASUS
This was several years ago. Then we were still working pensioners. And then one of the Mondays after the summer holidays, Pavel Vasilievich M. came to my health center and told the following story.
A friend from Germany came to see him (in the 90s, many of our enterprises remained in Germany, and the working staff had the opportunity to stay there for permanent residence). And Pavel Vasilievich invited his friend for the weekend to his dacha, which was located on the banks of the Volga, to go fishing, relax and, of course, taste the fruits of his own harvest, environmentally friendly, as he considered at that time. He praised his agricultural products, because he raised them without chemistry, only fertilized them with organic matter.
A friend offered to check his vegetables for nitrates and took out a small object in the form of a probe. The fact is that in Germany such devices are available for free, and anyone can check vegetables and fruits for the presence of chemistry. I bought one thing, checked it, and the issue was resolved - to purchase goods here in the future or not. Unfortunately, such devices are not available with us, which is a pity.
And it began. In all tomatoes, the indicators of the presence of chemistry went off scale, they moved to cucumbers - the same picture, and so in all vegetables: where it is less, where it is more, but everywhere the presence of nitrates exceeded the norm. Everyone was shocked! They look beautiful and healthy vegetables, but inside there is solid chemistry. So Pavel Vasilyevich and I thought about where the mistake was made. After all, according to him, they fed their vegetables with mineral fertilizers only to a minimum, mostly organic matter was used - manure, humus, herbal infusions. And as a result, the crop ruined by nitrates. What is the reason?
Maybe there should be a little organic, huh? Let's figure it out. How many times per season do we feed our plants with all kinds of infusions? Judging by the articles from the magazine, well, a lot: yeast top dressing, but more than once, infusions of nettle and other herbs several times, extracts from ash and much more - bone and fish meal, various husks, cleanings, waste - what only No! And also superphosphate, potassium, magnesium, nitrogen in the form of urea or ammonium nitrate. And then another boron on the leaves, but many, many times during the season
Not a single plant is able to process everything that we stuff it with. So we get beautiful-looking vegetables as a result, causing only harm to our health, and even more so to children.
Once upon a time they lived without grieving I really like to read letters from older people in our magazine: they have life stories that are touching to tears, but most importantly, they grew their vegetables very simply, without problems. I remember my mother and her delicious cucumbers, tomatoes, everything was so delicious
Since autumn, she has been filling the boxes with earth from under the birch, in winter the soil is frozen, and that's it, no additives. She planted seeds in it. Once she spilled the seedlings with a solution of manganese, in the soil - only watering and loosening. Do not believe it, we did not even tie them up, and those plants that lay on the ground never got sick, and the fruits did not deteriorate!
I remember cucumbers also creeping along the ground, and there were a lot of these cucumbers. Salted in barrels, then switched to cans. And there was no fertilizer at all, the only thing - in the fall, my father scattered humus for digging. There was not even ash: we lived in an apartment with central heating. Berry bushes grew in the same way. It turns out that I ate the purest vegetables only from my mother.

AND WHAT IS BETTER TO FERTILIZE VEGETABLES IN THE GARDEN?
I am for organic farming, I have repeatedly emphasized this in my articles. Yes, and how else? But sometimes I go too far. Will explain.
When planting, I immediately fill the holes with organic matter, here is my favorite feather, and these are microelements, and a dry birch leaf that acts as an antiseptic, a little bone or fish meal - calcium, a little biohumus, potassium in the form of crushed sunflower husks.
It would seem that such a menu is enough for the whole season, but the hand reaches out to feed and feed! But what about vermicompost "tea" (I already wrote about it) ? Our lawn occupies a large area, and after mowing, part of the grass goes to mulching, and the other to “tea”. So the hand reaches out to feed and feed their vegetables, and they are already shouting to me: “Enough, come to your senses, stop! We are full, we don't need more! Can't you see from the leaves that you have already overfed us? You pour boric acid in huge quantities (once a week), and this is poison in such quantities!
No. We do not hear this cry. We do not even think about anything, give us the result at any cost. So why are we better than "nitrate" grandmothers on the market?!
Nitrates in the human body are converted to nitrites. When released into the blood in large quantities, they can cause oxygen starvation, shortness of breath, diarrhea and other unpleasant symptoms. Long-term consumption of vegetables with a high content of nitrates adversely affects the functioning of the thyroid gland, the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and can also be the cause of allergic reactions.

IT'S TIME TO TAKE MIND
But not only the fruits contain excess chemistry, the earth also suffers from our excessive efforts. After all, healthy soil is the right ratio of beneficial saprophytes and pathogens. The main saprophyte is the Trichoderma fungus, which feeds on decomposed organic matter, and the darkness is dark, and all of them unequivocally lead to various rot, toxins and, ultimately, to overworking the earth.
In soil devoid of organic matter, beneficial fungi are replaced by pathogenic ones. Plants begin to wither, and we think that they are getting sick, and we begin to treat them. How? Chemistry, of course, what else!
And all sorts of insects fly on stunted plants. And from them we also use poison. No wonder they say that the main pest of the crop is the man himself! When I see piles and bags of grass on garbage carts in my SNT, I feel uneasy. I just want to shout: “People, stop, return your grass to the beds, feed the inhabitants of the earth!”
But it happens even worse: some “wise men” burn dry grass. No matter how much we struggle with it - it's useless! Is it really difficult to lay out in beds or collect in bags, because in the fall it will definitely come in handy for mulching winter crops! Is the mind not enough?
Personally, I leave a couple of bags for the spring: I put the grass in the holes if the earth has not yet warmed up. Now I plan to purchase a device for determining nitrates in fruits and all other chemistry. I have a soil acidity meter, this year I bought a soil temperature meter and a grafting pruner, and I bought all this with the royalties received from the publication of my articles
But even without appliances, this season I have reduced all kinds of feeding to a minimum. It is better to take care of the soil so that the ratio of saprophytes and pathogens is normal, and for this you don’t need much: the main thing is that the earth is never bare. I wish all summer residents health, a peaceful sky, rich and, most importantly, healthy harvests! And our publication - prosperity.
NOTE: FEATURES OF APPLICATION OF MINERAL FERTILIZERS
Doses for individual plants should always be calculated individually and never take fertilizer "by eye".
Only optimally fertilized soil can be the key to successful cultivation of ornamental, vegetable and fruit plants.
Excess nitrogen in the soil is harmful to human health.
An excess of phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and microfertilizers is not dangerous for humans, but dangerous for plants.
With mineral fertilizers, not only nutrients enter the soil, but also ballast, which can be harmful both to humans and plants: chlorine, sulfur, arsenic, fluorine, etc.
On the packaging of fertilizers, the content of active ingredients is often indicated in oxides: phosphorus in the composition of phosphorus oxide, which corresponds to 0 g of phosphorus, potassium in the composition of potassium oxide, which corresponds to 436 g of potassium.
If there is no data on the exact content of nutrients in the soil, you need to take a dose corresponding to the optimal content in the soil.
Fertilizers should always be thoroughly mixed into the soil and never left embedded on the surface.
From the editor. Small clarification. Devices for determining the content of nitrates in agricultural products are available for free sale, and in a fairly wide range.

Fresh store-bought greens can be dangerous due to the high content of agrochemicals (nitrates) and pesticides. Nitrates in our body turn into nitrites, which have a toxic effect.
TO REDUCE THE NEGATIVE EFFECT OF NITRATE, YOU NEED:
- thoroughly rinse the greens and vegetables under running water, after soaking for an hour in cold water;
- greens have only leaves (not stems), remove the upper leaves from cabbage and remove the stalk, cut off the peel from cucumbers.
