Do-it-yourself homemade dressing for currants is very effective!
FEEDING FOR BLACKCURRANT OWN HANDS
I grew currants from seeds sent by Moscow breeders. Of the seedlings, I selected eight of the most valuable in all respects.
In rainy times and with the introduction of organic matter and mineral water, the bushes gave very good yields of tasty berries of moderate size with a thin skin.
But in the semi-arid summer, the crops were rather poor. Irrigation was a problem. But even when he dug his own well and watered enough, the berries did not grow larger.
And here's what I came up with. I prepared a complex non-traditional fertilizer from three components: 2 kg of sunflower cake, two tablespoons each potato starch, chalk, spring honey, 1 tablespoon of iodized salt per 10 liters of water.
He insisted, stirred and in early September watered from a bucket with three holes punched in it (6 buckets per plant). It turned out something like "drip" irrigation. The water soaked in gradually.
In early spring, the earth thawed, and after the flowering of the currant, I repeated the watering. With a stick, he made depressions in the soil, checked how moist it was.
And in the same year, 100% of the berries were set, and they themselves were 2-3 times larger than on unfed bushes.
My whole family admired such a harvest, but I was afraid to say what kind of fertilizer I watered, because I would be punished and could hardly get an amnesty.
Tell me, I would have translated so much honey, but no, one grandfather-beekeeper gave it to me for thanks. By the way, then I did not use this fertilizer, because the whole family had to save branches with a strong harvest so that they would not break.

DO I APPLY CONIFEROUS LITTER UNDER THE CURRANT?
I heard that coniferous litter can be added to cucumbers (to protect against a bear). But recently I read that coniferous litter can only be used on acidic soils. Can it be used on currants, honeysuckle and cucumbers?

Dear Nina Vasilievna! I don’t have a bear, because I don’t dig the ridge, I don’t bring manure for digging, but I constantly put more old compost on top. Coniferous litter acidifies the soil if it is poured out a lot and dug up. And if you mulch on top with a layer of 3 cm, then it will be useful, the needles will not be able to acidify the soil with air access.
