HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM WALNUTS - BOOKING AND MAINTAINING THE GARDEN
Today, many farmers and amateur gardeners are establishing walnut orchards. The quick-growing walnut is a low-cost and easy-to-grow crop. Nuts are always in demand. So you can make good money on a good walnut tree.
I have been growing early-growing walnuts for over 30 years. I think that the most practical varieties are Kocherzhenko and Bagryany, which differ mainly in the shape of the fruit.
Grade cluster early-fruiting walnut Kocherzhenko named after the famous breeder Ivan Evmenovich Kocherzhenko. I purchased the first early-fruiting walnut seedlings from him back in the 80s at an exhibition in Kyiv. Since then I have been studying this amazing culture.
When laying a walnut garden, I plant seedlings according to the 5 × 5 m scheme, if it is supposed to use 5 × 6 m equipment when processing the garden. When planting, I add only dry humus mixed with garden soil in a ratio of 1: 3 to the hole when planting. When planting, I always deepen the root collar by 3-5 cm. During autumn planting, this allows you to protect the root from frost damage, and from drying out in spring. After planting, the nuts should be watered abundantly, as well as regularly watered during the first year.
On inthe second year after planting a walnut seedling, in June, I prune and shape the tree. When pruning, I leave 2-3 of the strongest shoots. I do pruning in cloudy rainy weather.
I cover the place of the cut with garden pitch. After pruning the tree, I water it abundantly. I always cut off the first ovary so that the tree does not waste energy on the formation of the first crop and does not stop in development. Otherwise, instead of a stunted 5-meter tree, a weak 3-meter dwarf may grow.
Nuts ripen at the end of September. I collect fruits in the period of full ripening, when the pericarp bursts, and the nut itself falls out. I dry the collected nuts well in the sun so that they do not mold. Not only their presentation, taste, but also the quality of the seed depends on this.
Varieties Bagryany and Kocherzhenko are quite unpretentious, grow on soils of any type. An adult tree reaches 5-6 m in height. Such a low growth for a walnut makes it easier to care for the tree.
The crown is compact. Mature trees bear fruit on the tops of the shoots and on the lateral shoots in clusters (6-12 nuts each). The tree is literally covered with fruits. Early-fruiting nuts have a very high yield: an adult tree brings an average of 30 kg of fruit.
They differincreased frost resistance, which is very important for growing in regions where there are winter frosts down to – 30 °C. Ordinary tall nuts are severely damaged at this temperature, even to the point of complete freezing.
Variety Kocherzhenko grows well both in a sunny area and in the shade. Very resistant to diseases, practically not damaged by pests. It tolerates heat and drought well. The fruits are medium in size, with a very thin shell, which is easily crushed by the fingers, the core is white, dense.

NEW PRODUCTS IN OWN SELECTION.
Most of the varieties that will be discussed are derived from the Kocherzhenko variety.
Dobrodar
The trees of this early-growing low-growing variety are very frost-resistant and productive. A variety with an apical-lateral type of fruiting, the ability to form clusters. The fruits are large, one-dimensional, densely arranged on the tree. The kernel is white, with a high oil content and a pronounced nutty flavor. The shell is thin and breaks easily. The variety is unpretentious.
Suitable for cultivation throughout the country.
grape-like
Early-growing, short-growing nut. The crown is dense, spreading. Fruiting of the apical-lateral type (not only the tops are fruitful, but also part of the lateral buds). Mature trees tend to produce fruit with a non-standard, increased amount of nuts. The variety has an extremely high yield. Fruiting begins already in the 2-3rd year. The shell is thin. The core of dessert taste, white, is easily and completely removed from the shell.
Industrial
An early-growing variety of walnut that combines many of the best qualities of a walnut. The tree is small-sized, begins to bear fruit in the 2-3rd year. Variety of lateral type. Fruiting is annual, the yield is high, stable. The fruits themselves have an excellent presentation, ripen early, at the same time. The kernel is white, high in protein and vegetable oil, has a high nutritional and raw value. Trees are frost hardy.
The variety is unpretentious. First of all, it will be of interest to professional walnut growers, farmers, whose plans include laying walnut orchards on large land areas.
walnut grove
The characteristics are similar to the Industrial variety.
Early-growing stunted nut. Fruiting apical-lateral type. Mature trees form clusters of fruits. A very high yielding variety. The core is white, tasty.
Due to the low tree height and compact crown, trees can be planted densely, which allows you to get a higher yield per unit area. Frost-resistant, unpretentious. It is also suitable for establishing large commercial walnut orchards.
Nut rain
The unusual name of the variety is explained by the fact that during the period of fruit ripening under a tree it is impossible to stand in windy weather - there are so many falling fruits. It seems that there is a "nut rain". The tree is early-growing, undersized, with an apical-lateral type of fruiting. The shell is thin. The kernel is white, with high palatability, easily removed from the shell. The variety is frost-resistant.
When choosing from a variety of varieties of early-growing walnuts, I advise you to rely on the experience of walnut growers. So you save time, budget and effort to create a walnut garden as soon as possible. I wish good luck and inspiration to all lovers of early-growing walnuts.

GROWING WALNUTS ON THE PLOT AND VEGETABLE GARDEN - TIPS AND REVIEWS
WALNUT AT THE COUNTRY
I decided to tell you how I managed to grow a walnut.
Three years ago in September, my husband and I vacationed in Crimea. In the courtyard of the house where we lived, there grew a huge walnut tree. We often collected nuts under it, and when we left, we took some with us.
We brought fresh fruits home and I planted three of them in separate pots with store-bought soil, placing them on their edges. I placed it on a warm windowsill and watered it as the soil dried.
All three nuts sprouted and overwintered in my apartment. At the end of May, I planted one at the dacha and gave two seedlings to my neighbors.
I planted walnuts in soil fertilized with ash and humus. Already in the first year the tree grew noticeably and sprouted side shoots. It overwintered well too.
Now my nut is 3 years old. Bye tree young, it needs watering and fertilizing. Mature trees only need watering, since their root system is well developed, and the tree itself will take care of its nutrition - it will take everything from the ground.
After three years, the walnut needs to form a crown, like an apple tree. But not all plants inherit maternal qualities, it depends on your luck. The fruits may be small, but the taste will not be inferior to large ones.
The nut begins to bear fruit after 6 years. So everyone can grow this southern plant on their own and get a harvest of the healthiest nuts. But you need to know that store-bought nuts undergo heat treatment and the kernels practically do not germinate in them.
