Carnation Grenadine (photo): cultivation in the open field and on the balcony
CLOVE GRENADINE GROWING
Summer residents, who can only come to the dacha on weekends, want to grow plants in their garden that would be distinguished by long flowering and at the same time do not require complex care. One of these wonderful, unusually beautiful and fragrant plants is the Grenadine clove. It is able to decorate not only the garden, but also a balcony, loggia or window sill.
Carnation Grenadine shoots grow up to 70 cm long, so it can be grown on balconies and loggias in hanging planters as an ampelous plant. She is simply mesmerizing with her beauty! I'm not talking about the aroma that her delightful flowers exude.
In the garden, carnation Grenadine looks great in rockeries and rock gardens. The stones surrounding it only emphasize the elegance of the plant. Spectacular compositions are obtained from carnation Grenadine with bright red flowers and a host.
Grenadine is propagated by seeds, cuttings and dividing the bush. I only planted seeds when I grew this carnation for the first time. And then I constantly cut it. I consider this method of propagating clove Grenadine the most effective. Out of 10 cuttings, 8 take root - an excellent result!
I take cuttings 10-15 cm long from healthy strong shoots that do not have a flower. I do this at the end of July. I remove the lower leaves, dip the cuttings in Kornevin (a root formation stimulator) and plant them in cups in moist soil, consisting of a mixture of sand and peat, in one - up to 5 cuttings. From above I put on a glass jar or a plastic bag. Periodically I remove the shelter and ventilate the cuttings. After about 3 weeks, they start to grow. By spring, a decent bush with a large number of rosettes is obtained, which blooms in early June.
In the first season, carnation Grenadine pleases me with its long (albeit not very plentiful) flowering on the balcony. The following year, when the threat of return frosts has passed (in early June), I plant plants in the garden. where they bloom profusely and for a long time. Then the cycle repeats: cuttings - balcony - garden.
I must say that the carnation is a light-loving plant and feels pretty good in the open sun. But still it is better to provide her with light shading at some time of the day. Then she will delight in flowering for a month and a half.
It is better to remove faded flowers immediately so that the plant does not waste energy on seed maturation, but gives them all to flowering.
I feed the carnation only once in the budding phase with complex fertilizer for flowers. Manure is better not to use, it provokes the occurrence of fungal diseases.
I water this carnation infrequently: the flower does not tolerate waterlogging and gets sick with root rot from great dampness. Therefore, for prevention in mid-June, I spray the plants with Hom (according to instructions). Didn't notice any pests.
Yes, I forgot to mention that Grenadine carnation flowers are white, pink, red, yellow ... But since I like red the most, I grow only it. In my opinion, during flowering, it is spectacular more than others.
