GROWING ASPARING BEANS - METHODS AND VARIETIES
One of the most interesting varieties of common beans is vegetable, or asparagus. It got its name due to the long beans, the wings of which do not contain a parchment layer, and there are no fibers in the seams. Unlike a heavy grain, it is a light, dietary product, in the wings and unripe seeds of which the protein is successfully combined with vitamins and mineral elements.

The special taste of unripe beans (pods) was first discovered by the Italians. While there were no special vegetable varieties, young shoulder blades of grain beans were used. Later, varieties were bred intended for whole consumption in an unripe form. Since the taste and appearance of such beans, when cooked, resembled young shoots of asparagus, they began to be called asparagus. Over time, vegetable beans have gained many fans around the world.
She has a lot of advantages. In addition to the fact that asparagus beans are classified as vegetable delicacies, this crop is also early ripening, which is very important for vegetable growers in the middle lane. After all, we can plant beans only at the end of May. Its blades in technical ripeness are suitable for harvesting after 40-50 days after germination. No less early maturity is impressive yield: from one bush, depending on the variety, you can collect from 50 to 100 beans.
At the same time, beans are also outwardly among the first garden beauties. Its bushes are decorated with large carved dark green leaves (some with anthocyanin coloring of cuttings and veins), among which white, pink, red or lilac moth flowers “flutter” and bunches of beans hang. Elongated, slightly curved, with blunt tips or "beak", they are even more diverse in color than flowers: green (rich dark, emerald, salad), purple (with strokes, white or golden spots), yellow (lemon, amber ), purple (lilac, spotted, almost black), variegated.
SUGAR AND SEMI-SUGAR BEANS
Numerous varieties of vegetable beans are divided into sugar and semi-sugar. In the former, the beans are round in cross section, with a large amount of jelly. The second ones are flat, and there is much less jelly. These varieties are bred as versatile and suitable for beans and grains.

BEANS IN THE CRUSH AND A TENT
On household plots, vegetable beans are grown in two forms: bush and climbing. Bush beans have a very short (2-2,5 weeks) fruiting. In the conditions of the middle zone, it is practically a single-harvest crop, only in a good summer it is possible to harvest twice. It is advisable to tie the bushes to sticks 50-60 cm high, then the shoulder blades remain clean and do not get sick. Together, the beans must be quickly collected before they are overripe, and immediately processed: canned or frozen.
All curly varieties of vegetable beans are not only very productive, but also beautiful. To stimulate the growth of more and more beans, they need to be harvested as often as possible. And they are able to bear fruit until the first frost.
Curly varieties grow up to 2-3 m high, so a high trellis is required for them. A stretched cucumber net, the sunny side of a fence, a tree or a gazebo are suitable as it. It is more reliable to grow such varieties with us through seedlings, which can be planted even in a greenhouse to get an earlier harvest.

Asparagus beans have only one drawback: they are very thermophilic, their seedlings cannot stand even light frosts. Therefore, crops must be covered, even if the sprouts have not yet appeared from the ground.
The place for planting beans should be protected from the northern cold winds and well lit by the sun. Beans will not grow in the shade.
They begin to sow it when the soil at a depth of 10 cm warms up to 12 ° C. In the middle lane, this is the end of May. Sowing depth - 5-7 cm. The distance between plants is different, depending on the planting pattern. When sowing in one row (which is most preferable), the distance between plants is -12-15 cm. But you can sow beans in a square-nested way according to a 40 × 40 cm scheme.
If the crops are covered first with a film, and after germination - with a non-woven material, then the crop will ripen 2-3 weeks earlier.
The shell of the bean grain is very hard, so dry seeds germinate for a long time. However, they should not be pre-soaked, it is better to pour hot water (70 ° C) into which potassium permanganate is added to a bright pink color just before sowing, and plant immediately.
Beans do not tolerate acidic soils, the soil pH should be 6-6,5, that is, slightly alkaline. Therefore, before planting, a deoxidizer must be added to the soil: dolomite flour, chalk. If they are not - ash.
