SOWED SEEDS FOR SEEDLING AND THERE ARE NO SEEDS?
Boris Sonin, Minusinsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory
A long time for seed germination, poor germination or no seedlings at all can be associated not only with the quality of the seeds themselves, but also with the quality of the soil, as well as with errors during sowing. This applies to any plants: tomatoes, peppers or other crops.
PRIMING
Seed germination is largely affected by the quality of the soil: if it is too dense and heavy, acidic, or a dry crust forms on its surface, it will be difficult for seeds to break through such obstacles.
PREPARATION OF SEEDS
Improper pre-sowing seed preparation can also affect the quality of seedlings. Some summer residents treat them in several preparations at once, keep them in them for too long, or exceed the permissible concentrations.
INCORRECT SOWING DEPTH
The reason may be excessively deep sowing, or vice versa - superficial, which does not correspond to the morphological features of this crop. You can not sow small seeds deep (they simply cannot sprout) or large seeds shallow (their seedlings can dry out).
INCORRECT WATERING
Excessive watering will lead to the displacement of air from the soil, that is, it will start the processes of oxygen-free oxidation. As a result, rotting of seeds, reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms can occur. With weak watering, the lack of moisture will not allow the seeds to swell, and the seed coat will not be able to burst.
When using any new preparation or substrate, it is better to start the experiment on several seeds or plant varieties.
TEMPERATURE MODE
Dangerous low temperature of the soil and the environment. It should not be lower than room temperature, but rather higher - about 28 ° C. The main thing is that the surface on which the container stands should not be cold. It is better to put crops closer to heat.
KNOWLEDGE OF PLANT PHYSIOLOGY
Ignorance of the timing of seedlings of different crops can lead to the fact that there will be a desire to “check”, that is, to dig up the soil with sown seeds. This should not be done categorically, otherwise you can destroy the seeds that have begun to hatch.
