Siberian cedar successfully grows almost throughout Russia - from the Komi Republic to Yakutia, from the Arctic Circle to the state border in Western and Eastern Siberia. Unless in the southern regions of our country, he will not feel very good because of the heat and dryness.
3. WHICH VARIETIES OF CEDAR TO PLANT?
Ordinary cedar is a tree up to 40 m tall. But you can choose to plant on or near the site undersized varieties. For example, the President reaches a maximum height of 3 m, he is handsome, he breathes well next to him, but he does not bear fruit well. But the record holder variety among dwarf Siberian cedars is famous for its abundant fruiting. The height of the tree is up to 3 m, the cones are small, they look unusually decorative, the nuts are tasty and nutritious. A tree of the Narcissus variety does not exceed 1 m in height, the cones are large, but only the nuts are inedible.
IMPORTANT! Low-growing varieties of cedar are new, they have not yet been sufficiently tested in gardeners' plots. If you have experience in growing such trees, write to us. In the meantime, we can say that they will definitely decorate the site, however, low-growing varieties, due to the small volume of the crown, create a weaker volatile background for us compared to a large cedar. You can try to graft a tall cedar onto a seedling of a low-growing variety and get an intermediate option - a medium-sized tree.
Two varieties of cedar pine are included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements.
Kedrogradsky - a productive variety, regular fruiting, large nuts, 1 cm long, weight 4 pcs. - 1000 g. The average height of the tree is 346 m. It can be propagated by grafting cuttings from fruit-bearing shoots onto the stock of cedar pine.
Romantic is a productive variety, fruiting is almost regular, nuts are large, 1 cm long, weight 3 pcs. – 1000 g. The height of the tree is 330 m.

5. HOW TO GROW CEDAR?
It is better to just buy a seedling and plant it. Purchase seedlings with a height of 30-100 cm. Purchase seedlings above 100 cm only in containers of the appropriate volume.
Discard plants with exposed roots and yellow withered needles. It is possible that they were simply dug out of the forest and put up for sale.
Wildlife from the forest, with timely and accurate digging (preferably on their own) and planting, also take root well.
When planting, the distance between the trees should be 4-6 m (less for dwarf ones), and the distance from your house and country buildings to the cedar should be at least 3 m. If you plant the cedar closer, then its powerful roots can damage the foundation of structures. When planting cedar, keep in mind that it loves clay, well-fertilized soils with the presence of mycorrhiza from places where cedar or pine grow. If the site has sandy soil, fill the planting hole with a mixture of this soil with peat and clay in a ratio of 2: 1: 2. And be sure to bring in the land from the pine forest - 1 bucket per planting hole. Such soil contains the mycorrhiza necessary for the tree. Dig a planting hole 40% larger than an earth seedling.
Tie the planted seedling to a peg. Water and water every 2-3 days for the first 2-3 weeks, if there is no rain, so that the tree takes root faster.
You can grow cedar from seeds: first put them on stratification in the refrigerator, then sow them in cups or immediately into the ground. This is a troublesome business, many shoots of conifers are sick and dying. So from a large number of seedlings, only a few will turn into adult plants.
IMPORTANT! It should be noted that the fruiting of the Siberian cedar usually begins only at the age of 25, although with good care it is possible from the age of 15. In order to speed up this process, a cedar seedling is grafted with a cutting from an adult fruit-bearing tree. In this case, you will not get a majestic giant - the cedar will not grow above 5 m, but it will bear fruit already in the 5th year after planting.
