I.V. Popova in the article “Ripe, but green” writes that gooseberries, especially green-fruited varieties, have a high content of biologically active substances that have a strong therapeutic effect. This begs the question: why don't red, black, yellow berries have the same values as green ones?

Of course, all colored gooseberries are very useful. They are rich in vitamin C, P-active substances, carotene, iron, vitamin B9. But only green-fruited gooseberries, when fully ripe, are colored with chlorophyll, and chlorophyll-bearing tissues are rich in vitamins E, K and folic acid. In addition, these berries contain more serotonin, which has antitumor activity, the ability to increase blood pressure in hypotensive patients, lower blood sugar in diabetes.

Gooseberries love fertile soil, so you should add half a bucket of humus or compost to the planting pit. An adult bush needs to be properly fed. In the spring - nitrogen fertilizers (urea or ammophos) or mullein. You can scatter dry chicken manure under the bush, after which the soil under it is mulched with compost, sawdust, peat.

In the middle of summer, superphosphate is applied simultaneously with good watering. In late July - early August, potash fertilizers are fertilized (potassium sulfate in liquid form - 3 tablespoons per 1 bucket of water), 1 bucket per bush. In autumn, after the foliage has fallen, the soil under the bushes is covered with a layer of humus 5-6 cm.
