Lilies can be grown not only in flower beds. For those who love potted arrangements and mobile flower beds, there is another option. You can plant these beautiful flowers in flowerpots or flowerpots, and when they bloom, put them in the most prominent place.
For urban residents, such a potted flower garden is the only opportunity to admire their favorite plants and enjoy their aroma. Lilies bloom in pots as plentifully and magnificently as in a flower bed, and they bring no less joy.

WHICH LILY IS SUITABLE FOR POT
For potted compositions, any undersized lilies are suitable. Too high for containers are not suitable, because due to the large above-ground mass, the pot will tilt and fall sideways.
Asian lilies are very good in pots. These minnows are absolutely unpretentious and endure cramped conditions without any problems. A small amount of soil does not affect the splendor of flowering, and when the time comes, the "Asian women" shoot with caps of chic buds.
Oriental lilies are also fabulously good. Their flowers are much larger, and when the lily blooms, it seems that a chic bouquet with a breathtaking aroma has been placed in a pot. A small amount of soil in a container does not affect the volume of flowers, a well-fed bulb will release the same number of buds and the same quality as in the ground. However, let's talk about everything in order.
SUBTLETS OF PLANTING LILY IN POT
The timing of planting a lily in a flowerpot is not regulated. I plant bulbs in stages. First, I save those bulbs from chain supermarkets that start selling very early, for example, in February. At this time, planting material is already on sale, but it is practically doomed, because there is still a lot of time before planting in the garden.
It is during such periods that I buy 2-3 good bulbs with germinating buds and plant them in pots. Lilies, already starting to grow, begin to quickly grow the stem, and after a month and a half, a lush flower bouquet on a stem flaunts in a pot. Beauty! There is still snow everywhere, and lush lilies adorn my window.
The second planting date comes in the spring, when the flower beds thaw. During spring work, I divide the lily nests and leave some of the bulbs for pot growing. If I order something from new varieties this season, then I definitely leave a few bulbs for pot growing.
For growing lilies, you can take any universal soil. I add a few handfuls of vermiculite to it for fluffiness and breathability. In pots, be sure to make holes for draining excess water so that it does not stagnate at the bottom.
As a base fertilizer, I fill the soil with a complex long-playing organo-mineral fertilizer for flowers. See the label for application rates. Fertilizer should be applied if you plan to keep the lily in the pot for the next season. The bulb will need to replenish its strength after flowering and prepare for the next summer. If you do not give top dressing, then in a limited amount of soil she will have nowhere to take food.
If your goal is just to admire the potted flowering, and then move the lily to a common flower bed, then you can not apply top dressing. The bulb will then get everything it needs from the ground after transplanting to the flower bed.
Lilies should be watered in pots as the soil dries out. Do not flood, but do not dry the plants.
After flowering, pots with lilies can be hidden until autumn in the far corner of the garden. There, the bulbs will calmly replenish their reserves of strength and wait for winter sleep. It is necessary to bring pots for wintering after a cold snap. I always let the pot lilies freeze a little at a temperature of minus 1 - 2 ° and only then I take the flowerpots and lower them into the underground for the winter.
In the spring I take them out when the sprouts sprout, and the lilies bloom again and generously share their beauty.
By the way, when wintering in the underground, do not forget to cover the pots with cardboard or boards so that mice do not get to the juicy and fleshy bulbs. In the spring, starting in March, regularly check the condition of the lilies, because they can wake up very early.

- I never deny myself the pleasure of buying the plants I like, even at an inopportune time. I first put the lily bulbs in the refrigerator (on the bottom shelf) and periodically check if the sprouts have sprouted. As soon as they appear, I plant lilies in containers. Be sure to add drainage to the bottom. Above - purchased universal soil, to which I add washed coarse sand. I moisten gently, without flooding, otherwise the bulbs may rot. Before landing, I keep it on a glazed loggia, where the temperature is about +10 degrees. Early varieties of lilies can bloom right on the balcony.
When planting in open ground, I take out the plants carefully so that the earthen ball does not crumble. It is better, of course, to plant the bulbs in peat pots, and then, with the advent of heat, dig them in the garden (this way the root system is not injured at all).

Remember that when planting a lily in a peat pot in open ground, it is important that it is completely in the ground. If the bulb in this case is too deep, the edge of the container must first be cut off.
