THREE-LEAF WATCH - CARE AND USEFUL PROPERTIES
It is especially decorative in spring, during flowering, in the vicinity of calamus or marsh cinquefoil. It usually grows on the low banks of rivers and lakes. The watch even got its name for the fact that it warns of water or swamp ahead.
Three-leaf watch, or water shamrock, or tripol (Menyanthes trifoliata), - a perennial herb from the Rotational family (in old sources - Gentian), with a thick, creeping, long, rooting rhizome in the nodes.
BORROW FROM NATURE
This plant is not yet very common in gardens. Maybe because it is not always on sale. But it is possible in August, when there is little chance of confusing the shift with other plants, in nature, take pieces of its rhizomes with apical shoots. They are planted in a peat-sand mixture (2: 1). Additionally, you can add a little chopped sphagnum, which contributes to more efficient moisture retention. The soil must always be well saturated with water.
RAW MATERIAL PREPARATION
For the preparation of medicines, the leaves of the plant are harvested in the summer, when they reach their maximum size, in dry sunny weather, leaving petioles no more than 3 cm long.

TRIFOL OR THREE-LEAF WATCH - BENEFITS AND PROPERTIES
USEFUL PROPERTIES AND TREATMENT WITH A THREE-LEAF WATCH
When I first found myself on a summer evening in a swamp, where I went to collect sphagnum moss for packing roots, I was amazed: here and there white candles of inflorescences rose in the twilight, somewhat reminiscent of horse chestnut. I could not understand which plant could bloom so beautifully. It turned out this three-leaf watch, water shamrock, or tripol.
TRIFOL IN THE GARDEN
A long creeping rhizome branches in the thickness of moss or soil at a depth of 5-8 cm. For good development, the plant needs constantly moist silty soil rich in humus in a well-warmed place. The watch is picky about acidity, but given that it is often found in nature in peat bogs, alkaline soils will probably not be to its taste. It can grow both in the sun and in partial shade. Watch grows especially well in “blooming” reservoirs at a depth of up to 10 cm.
Loose fit is suitable for large area design. In small bodies of water, to limit the spread, trifolium is planted in wicker baskets or other wide mesh containers with fertile soil. To avoid strong washing out of the soil, they can be lined with non-woven material.
In suitable conditions, care is not needed. Winter-hardy up to Siberia.
HEALING PROPERTIES OF THE THREE-LEAF WATCH
For medicinal purposes, watch leaves with petioles no longer than 3 cm after flowering (June-September) are collected and dried in the shade at a temperature not higher than + 45 degrees, and with good ventilation.
Its popular names speak eloquently about the field of application of tripoli: “fever”, “consumptive grass”, “scrofulous grass”, “female toad”. Watch leaves have a pronounced anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect, so they are used in feverish conditions.
And since they also accelerate regeneration, in folk medicine and veterinary medicine, trifol is used to treat fresh and difficult-to-heal wounds, trophic ulcers, as well as for various inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membranes, including stomatitis and periodontal disease. The three-leaf watch is part of the sedative and diuretic collections.
